5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter LOVES this series of books!, January 28, 2008
My daughter has been following this series and was checking every week for months prior to the release of this book. She is really fond of the characters and the storyline. She cannot wait for the next volume and is afraid to read this one too fast because she hates the wait for the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Next Harry Potter Series!!!, December 12, 2007
I just finished this book!!! I love this series. Although some may think I'm a little to old, who cares!!! This really wrapped everything up, but also left some hangers for, hopefully the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fall Of The Templar (Grey Griffins Book 3), April 6, 2009
It was a good read, as well as the other books in the series. This one had a lot of good twists like in the second book, "The Rise of the Black Wolf". Plus it had a good ending! A definitly good book to read, especially if you have already read the first and second books in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Fall of the Templar Book Review, September 8, 2008
By
In book three of the Grey Griffins trilogy, The Fall of the Templar, Derek Benz and J.S. Lewis bring the story to fantastic close. Max, Harley, and Natalia escape the Black Wolves after losing the Spear of Ragnarok to their leader. Ernie is hospitalized in a coma and the friends are distraught at their friend's situation and their loss of the artifact. Their return to Avalon is not a happy one, especially with the looming specter of the end of the world behind them.

A new mentor enters Max's life to help him understand the Codex and his developing power, but there is very little time left to do anything. The last hope lies in another lost artifact called the Eye of Odin, a magical item whose power can take magic from another source, hopefully the spear. The Templar are on a last ditch effort to locate and recover the object before the Black Wolves find the World Tree. Their desire to use the spear and end the world is driven by the idea of recreating a new world order.

The Grey Griffins, including Ernie whose miraculous recovery has given him powers from Faerie, travel with several remaining Templar to the faerie Underworld to search for the Eye of Odin and stop the Black Wolves. Max must confront the Eye's guardians and Ernie learns that there is a great risk using his new power. Natalia and Harley and the rest of the Templar must surpass the Underworld's many obstacles and creatures to locate the World Tree and help Max.

Benz and Lewis, in a remarkable twist, take the reader through an unforeseen ending that isn't contrived or substandard. The Fall of the Templar completes an excellent story that has only gotten better and better throughout the three books. Action packed with great characterization and drama, this story is well worth reading.

The Grey Griffin trilogy, overall, is very well done, methodical and enjoyable, and most of all supremely entertaining. Aside the first book's minor faults the whole series is told in a perfect balance of detail and forward momentum. Never lagging, it allows the reader to share the four friend's experiences while growing and learning throughout the story. Many lessons of teamwork, trust, and responsibility are executed seamlessly within the tale, an inspiring series for the young adult reader, and even for the adult reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Benz and Lewis bring readers yet another non-stop roller coaster of a ride, August 11, 2008
By
Fifth grader Max Sumner and pals Ernie, Harley and Natalia make up the Grey Griffins, a group bound together by honor and friendship. A big chunk of their free time is spent in the company of Iver, their teacher and mentor, playing their favorite game. Round Table consists of character cards displaying strange and amazing creatures (such as goblins and fairies), 10-sided dice called knucklebones, and the use of strategy, cunning and just a little bit of plain old luck.

But a short while ago, they discovered that Round Table isn't just a game --- it's a tool to train young soldiers. Without realizing it, the Grey Griffins have been preparing for war, to assist the ancient order of Templar Knights in defending our world from the monsters threatening to destroy it.

At the conclusion of THE RISE OF THE BLACK WOLF, Max discovered that his own father had tricked and betrayed him. He gave up the powerful spear of Ragnarok in exchange for his father's life, but he didn't know that Lord Sumner is actually one of them. Lord Sumner leads the Black Wolf Society, a terrifying army of werewolves that have merged magic with technology to become almost unstoppable. And now that the Black Wolf Society has control of the spear of Ragnarok, they are battling their way through the Templar Knight outposts on their way to the World Tree, the uniting force in the world. Their mission? To use the spear to destroy the World Tree, hence obliterating the entire universe.

However, there is still a tiny speck of hope for the Grey Griffins and the Templar Knights. An ancient artifact exists that can save the World Tree, yet because of its extreme power, the Eye of Odin is hidden deep in the dangerous Underworld. The Grey Griffins undergo further, more arduous training as a team, and Max tries to learn control of his new talent, producing a blue flame from his fingers.

As they prepare for the unimaginable, Ernie begins to notice a few new talents of his own. Could it have anything to do with the rather unusual medicine that Max gave him? And, as if they needed any more challenges, the enemy enlists the help of a shape-shifter. Now, despite the added security surrounding the Grey Griffins, the shape-shifter can get up close and personal for an attack, disguised as anyone. Time is running out. Will the Grey Griffins be able to save the world?

Derek Benz and J. S. Lewis bring readers yet another non-stop roller coaster of a ride with this third and final installment in the Grey Griffins trilogy. Adventure abounds in this imaginative tale, bringing werewolves, fairies and magic to life. The likable characters lead fans through this labyrinth of a story, with unforeseen twists and exciting quests, never pausing for a dull moment. Benz and Lewis fill out the action with unbelievable descriptions that kindle the story's energy ("The graveyard was set inside a wooded hollow, lined with crumbling headstones, like a mouth of broken teeth waiting to devour unwary visitors."). Throw in their unique sense of humor, and we have ourselves a winner!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best Fantasy Series I've Read, May 1, 2008
This book is an action packed nerve wrenching super fun book. The main characters are Max , Harley, Ernie, and Natalie. The book includes a small dictionary of all the gruesome evil monsters - so called demons. The book made me sad or on my toes at times, but most of the time I felt pretty nice. As a matter a fact I couldn't stop reading it. It was like I was stuck to the book with super glue. I would recommend this book to people who just love fantasy books it is so great!!!!!!
