Editorial Reviews

Rise and shine for First Light is on the horizon. Opio and Pep Love of the famed Hieroglyphics hip hop collective have joined forces to illuminate the day and expound upon the Hiero theme of random acts of musical collaboration. First Light gets its cue from the braggadocio and conceptual characteristics that were commonly expressed in the early nineties "Golden Era" of hip hop. But, at the same time, their way of displaying an affinity for and a loathing of the apathy and debauchery that permeates today's pop culture is poetically contradictory.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Rap Classic April 26, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
It's been 20 years since '93 Til Infinity, and in that time Opio has gone from maybe the worst rapper in Hiero to not only the best in the crew- but literally one of the best rappers alive. I've slowly listened to him develop as a rapper and I don't know what is going on in his personal life, but while a good number of rappers have gotten much worst over the past twenty years, Opio has kept on rappin' and strugglin' and that perseverance has culminated in this latest masterpiece. The nasal screaming of the past has been replaced by an impeccably smooth flow and incredibly intricate lyrics.

Pep-Love is a solid rapper and works well offsetting Opio, but Opio is the one that will really blow people away on this album.

Fallacy Fantasy is part of a New Golden Age of Rap that includes Apollo Brown/Guilty Simpson, Pacewon & Mr. Green, Czarface, Sean Price, Blacastan... All music clearly being made by people who are doing it for their love of hip hop. Do not sleep on this album. Even the rare song that doesn't have the best beat is saved by Opio's flow. If someone had told me 20 years ago that Opio is going to become one of the most legit rappers out there, I would have said impossible. I'm happy to have been proven wrong. This is a true rap classic and if Opio continues like this, he's on his way to becoming an underground rap legend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Opio is dopio April 14, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
I am a huge fan of Opio. He's one of my favorite emcees. Combine that with the fact that the rest of the Hiero crew contributes to the album - how could you not like it?

4.0 out of 5 stars dope beats and raps September 8, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
another dope hiero release. you never know with underground hip hop whether they are gonna have some tracks that are making a play at a wider commercial demographic or if the artist(s) are going more for an album to appease their core demographic. This feels like more of the latter - Opio and Pep Love mostly stay in their lane on this one which is great because their lane is being excellent rappers over funky boom bap beats. I recommend it to any hiero fan for sure. if you aren't familiar with other hiero releases then maybe flip thru the track previews first and make sure its your kind of hip hop
