5.0 out of 5 stars As always, Lori Foster delivers great romantic suspense!, March 3, 2004
This review is from: Fallen Angels (Paperback)
Fallen Angels by Lori Foster is a collection of related stories- two of which are older, previously published works and one (Uncovered) is new. Each story is interconnected and has similar themes of secrets and mystery.

In Beguiled, Dane Carter has come back to investigate his twin brother's murder. He even pretends to be his twin to Angel Morris, who was involved with his brother and has a child with him. Dane is attracted to Angel, but also must try to protect her from the killer. Complicating their romance is the lie Dane is keeping in pretending to be his twin.

In Wanton, Celia (who is Dane Carter's sister) has sworn off men when her ex fiance was found to be a criminal and only marrying her for her money. Celia is now determined to make up for her past bad judgements by helping others. Private Investigator, Alec,is Celia's boss who has to keep her safe while they investigate and convince her that love is not wrong.

In Uncovered, Harris and Clair are best friends but Clair has always been secretly in love with Harris. Accidentally, Harris finds some nude pictures of Clair along with Clair's unsigned notes professing her crush on him. Harris is immediately intrigued by this unknown woman and hires Clair's private investigation firm (run by Dane and Alec) to find his mystery woman. Surpringly, none of the 3 men recognize Clair's body in the photos and start a search for this woman.

It is nice to have each story in one volune and see how each story is related. Lori Foster always writes exciting, romantic books and these short stories are no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved all 3 stories!, February 26, 2004
This review is from: Fallen Angels (Paperback)
Fallen Angels contains re-releases of 2 of Lori Foster's earlier books, plus a brand new novella.

In BEGUILED, Dane Carter is a investigating the death of his twin, Derek. The Carters are keeping Derek's death quiet. Dane, a PI and the black sheep of the family, pretends to be Derek while he tries to discover whether Derek's death was an accident - or murder. At first, he suspects Angel Morris. Not only is she Derek's former lover, he also caused her to lose her job in a very public and humiliating manner. And Angel has secrets of her own. What will they discover when "Derek" tries to be a part of her life again?

WANTON is the story of Dane Carter's sister Celia and PI Alec Sharpe. Celia has left the Carter family business to work for Dane. Alec is Dane's best investigator. When Celia puts herself in danger trying to save a young woman in trouble, Alec tries to pull her off the case. But stubborn, independent Celia is having none of it! Alec has his work cut out for him.

In UNCOVERED, Clair Caldwell has a thing for firefighter Harris Black, but they are just jogging buddies. When Harris accidentally comes across nude photos of a woman - and notes about him with the pictures - he is entranced. And Clair is horrified! To Clair's chagrin, Harris hires a PI to try to locate the woman - Dane Carter's firm, where Clair works. Can she find a way to get Harris to notice her and convince him there's no need to discover the identity of the mystery woman?

I love connecting stories, and in these three sensual romances we get to revisit a whole lot of characters from more than one series. In BEGUILED, I love the way Dane comes back to do whatever he can for his family even though they have pretty much rejected him. And Angel is nowhere near as fragile as she appears! Alec from WANTON is irresistible, and Celia is definitely a match for him. UNCOVERED kept me laughing. It was so much fun to watch Harris bumble along. I kept hoping Clair would find a way to get him to notice her as more than a friend. I thoroughly enjoyed all three stories!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!, February 6, 2004

This fabulous anthology includes two previously released titles and one original story by Lori Foster.

If you haven't had the pleasure of reading two of Ms. Foster's previously released and hard to find titles, here's your chance to grab them up all in one book! In BEGUILED, we get to watch hunky P. I. Dane Carter fall in love with Angel Morris. In WANTON, go along for the ride when spunky Celia Carter and sexy P. I. Alec Sharpe match wits and sparks fly. Dane and Alec are two of Ms. Foster's sexiest and well loved heroes!

The original story in this anthology, UNCOVERED was a blast to read! Sexy firefighter Harris Black loves the fact that he gets along so well with his pal and jogging partner Clair Caldwell. Harris can be himself with her and he always enjoys her company. Little does he know that Clair has had the hots for him all along. When Harris puts out a building fire in town and stumbles upon a box of nude photos of a mysterious woman as well as letters that mention his name, he is intrigued and wants to find her. When Clair realizes that he is trying to find the women in the pictures, can she put a stop to his investigation and make him see the love that has been right in front of him all along? Clair and Harris were a perfect pair. The chemistry between these two sizzled. The humor was a wonderful addition to a steamy romance. You won't want to miss Harris and Clair's story.

I never miss a chance to get my hands on a new story by Lori Foster. FALLEN ANGELS is a book that you will want to add to your keeper shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book & series. Never laughed so much., September 10, 2004
By

This review is from: Fallen Angels (Paperback)
I started this book a couple months ago only reading the 1st. 2, Beguiled (Dane & Angel) bk. 1 & Wanton (Alex & Celia) bk. 2 They being part of the PI series which was fantastic. Mick (Caught in the act) bk. 3 links these 2 & the next 2 in the series (Treat her right & Mr. November) bks. 4 & 5.

Men of courage (Ethan & Rosie) is next, although I didn't know was linked to those above at the time of reading it. Then we have "Riley". Finally I get to the last book in this anthology "Uncovered" (Harris & Claire).

This one had me in stitches laughing. Harris is called to a fire. His friend Ethan firnds a box of photo's of a naked lady presumed to be posing. Because Ethan is married Harris takes them of him. Claire, Harris's neighbour sees them & is mortified. The next day when Claire gets to work for Dane & Alex she finds Harris there with the pictures. There are also some handwritten notes about Harris. Harris is desperate to find out who the mystery woman is. None of the men can understand Claire's reaction to seeing them spread out over the office. Dane & Alex even have them blown up to see if they can find some distinguishing marks.

It is only when Angel & Celia go into the office & see the pictures all over the wall that they recognise who it is. Men are sometimes so thick, they can't see what's under there noses. As this is happening Harris is about to go into the back office to stop them searching for her & Claire is about to walk into the shop. When she does the look they give her is pricless. They just don't know where to look. Harris is mortified as well as angry. 3 other men have seen those pictures of Claire & he is going to marry her. 2 of the men are her bosses. How will he live this down. They are by this time shouting all the personal details of what has gone on the night before & everyone can hear. Alex buts in a couple of times while they are still shouting.

After getting his presumptions wrong Harris finds out its an ex of Clair's who took the photos without her knowledge & that he has been doing it to others as well.

Lori says in the front of this book that "Uncovered" is the funniest book she has wrote & she is right. In future whenever I think about it it will have me cracking up.

The next in the series is Buck's story in "The truth about cats & dogs". My copy shoud be here next week. I can't wait.

"Fallen Angels" is a re-release of a collection of previously published stories. In a nutshell, they are three erotically charged short stories all dealing with private detectives and the misunderstood women they rescue, each with requisite wimpy heroines who let their alpha males walk all over them before finding their eventual happily ever after. Mostly, there are just long sexual passages with a little bit of a barely recognizable plot tossed in.

They weren't great the first time, and certainly not worthy of a second press. I keep hoping that the Foster that beguiled me with "Unexpected" will capture my attention again. She came close with "Havoc," but for the most part, it's been one disappointment after another, and no longer an auto-purchase author for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Incredible Stories, February 25, 2004
By
Lynda (Santee, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fallen Angels (Paperback)
I have read Beguiled and Wanton many times and in Fallen Angels I enjoyed reading them both once again.
In Beguiled, PI Dane Carter assumes his brother Derek's identity, to discover who murdered his twin. Along the way he meets Angel and is drawn into her life. The relationship between Dane & Angel is so special, a very tender romance and it just continues to grow. We are introduced to Alec & Celia from Wanton and Mick from Caught in the Act.

Wanton is pure heat!! Alec & Celia spar and love with such intensity. Celia is the only person who can drive Alec crazy with frustration, and crazy with lust. While trying to protect Celia from the bad guys, Alec is strong and tough and then with Celia he is fun and loving. A perfect man! Alec is one of my favorite hero's and Celia is the only one strong enough to stand up to him. A perfect match!

Also included is a new story, Uncovered. Harris Black is sexy, brave and a good friend to Clair Caldwell. The last thing he wants is to settle down and get married, or so he thinks... In Uncovered, Harris is searching for a mystery woman, unaware that she is already a part of his life. When he finds out who the mystery women is... Well you will have to read that part for yourself. I loved it and good friends really do make the best lovers.

It is very clever how the characters from Wanton & Beguiled are woven into the new story, Uncovered. It was just a pure joy to read, these characters will be hard to leave behind. Thank you Lori Foster for another book I will read over & over & over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compilation consisting of two reissues and one new., January 28, 2004
By
Robin L. Taylor (In the Library Reviews) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fallen Angels (Paperback)
FALLEN ANGELS brings us something Lori Foster fans have come to expect, and thoroughly enjoy - three connected stories. First we have the reissue of BEGUILED, then there is the reissue of the hard-to-find WANTON, and a great new story, UNCOVERED.

BEGUILED

Private investigator Dane Carter's twin, Derek, is dead. Dane steps into Derek's life for two reasons: for the sake of the family business, and to try and ascertain whether or not his brother was murdered. The first person Dane plans to meet is Angel Morris, his brother's last girlfriend. Is she the enemy? Could be, because during a hostile takeover, Angel was fired. Dane doesn't even have the chance to go to Angel. She comes to him. Angel is afraid to trust, and in fear, and she also needs protection. She's in danger, so she feels she has no choice but to go to Derek for help. As Dane's family kept Derek's death hidden, Angel doesn't know she is dealing with Dane - not Derek.

BEGUILED is a great story, and an excellent choice for a reissue one of Lori Foster's books. When Angel approaches Derek, after not seeing him for several months, he seems different, more intense. He's also gentler, and begins to break down the barriers to Angel's heart. BEGUILED has a sharp emotional edge to it, with enough intrigue to make this a great romantic suspense. Read this book, and you'll see how lust, however powerful, only lasts for a second with Angel and Dane.

WANTON

Celia Carter is bound and determined to prove herself, including making up for some things in the past. Her current goal is to find and save a missing girl named Hannah Barrington. Celia left her life of luxury and joined her brother's private investigation firm. Her newest job is quite dangerous, and Alec Sharpe, also a private investigator, makes it his business to keep a close watch on Celia. This creates problems, however, as Alec Sharpe is a danger to Celia's senses.

Alec's known Celia for about a year and a half. She's shut him out this entire time. Lust is taking over the bigger part of his brain, but there's something else there, a tenderness he feels for her, and that is something Alec doesn't like. Alec is hard, intense. A man convinced that he doesn't need or want love in his life. Alec is going to get Celia out of his system, one way or another. But first, he has to keep her from getting killed!

If someone had asked me before what my favorite Lori Foster book is, I would have said it is too hard to choose. But after re-reading WANTON, I'd have to say that WANTON is indeed my favorite. Alec's intense, sensitive and sensuous nature is utterly remarkable. How he affects and helps Celia, all while trying to deny the deep affect she has on him, is just wonderful. Alec is powerfully attracted to Celia, yet he only wants to sate his lust. Love is something Alec no longer has room for in his life. But Celia breaks down his defenses. For readers that have been scouring used bookstores looking for this incredibly good book by Ms. Foster will definitely get their money's worth when they purchase FALLEN ANGELS.

UNCOVERED

Harris Black and Clair Caldwell are good friends as well as jogging buddies. Clair's smitten and Harris hasn't shown any sexual interest. Harris is a firefighter, and after a warehouse fire near Clair's apartment building, he finds a shoebox full of pictures of a naked woman - and letters stating the woman was madly in love with him.

As Clair works for private investigators Dane and Alec (from BEGUILED and WANTON), Harris hires the firm to locate the woman. With her nude pictures, which were taken by a previous boyfriend without her consent, floating around the office, and possibly soon, the small town, Clair must find a way to end this investigation. What will happen when Harris finds out his secret admirer and Clair are one and the same?

I enjoyed this story by Ms. Foster. It's shorter the first two in the anthology, but since I met Harris in MEN OF COURAGE AND RILEY, I was able to jump right into the story. This story has delightful humor in it as well, and nicely rounds off this wonderfully engaging anthology.

Even though Ms. Foster connects her stories, they all stand alone. However, if you are like me, you will want to read all of Lori Foster's books, and even re-visit favorites as time goes on. So, be sure to pick up a copy of FALLEN ANGELS, because this book has intrigue, danger, passion and love, and is a great read that you won't want to miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to read and re'read, January 5, 2005
This review is from: Fallen Angels (Paperback)
Two stories in this book are reissues and the third is new. And I couldn't be happier about having them all under one cover. It was such fun to go back and read Dane and Alec's stories and I was thrilled to meet Harris in "Uncovered". He's a firefighter and every bit as HOT as you might imagine!

You really are missing out if you haven't purchased this steamy collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fallen Angels, June 21, 2004
This review is from: Fallen Angels (Paperback)
Fallen Angels is a must read for readers who have recently discovered Ms Foster's awesome talents.
BEGUILED AND WANTON are rereleases of two of Lori's hardest to find books and once you read them you will be able to see why.

In BEGUILED, Dane poses as his recently killed twin brother to find out whether he was murdered or not. Only thing is he discovers that his brother has a baby boy and that the mom is sexy Angel who is just recovering from injuries sustained in an accident. Angel has every reason to be leery of men and is
determined to be the best mom she can be for her son.
Angel and Dane must confront whoever is trying to kill Angel before he kills again.

In Wanton, Dane's sister Celia decides to give up her career in
the family business and become a private investigator. Her first
case is helping to rescue a girl from a prostitution ring. But she has one big obstacle, hunky, hot and did I say hunky? Alec
Sharpe who is determined to make Celia's new career a short-lived one.

In UNCOVERED, Firefighter Harris Black finds several pictures of a nude woman after putting out a fire, but there is something very familiar about the woman. How is his good friend Claire going to keep Harris from finding out those pictures were of her?

This book totally rocks and I know you will love it as much as I do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lori Has Done It Again!!!, March 28, 2004
This review is from: Fallen Angels (Paperback)
This book contains three stories by Ms. Foster. The first two "Beguiled" and "Wanton" were previously published and "Uncovered" is a new story that will have you laughing at the same time faning yourself off. I won't go into the break down of the different plots, but suffice it to say these are all three typical, trademark reads by one of my favorite authors. If your not afraid of a little steam with your sexy reads then pick up this book!!!!
