5.0 out of 5 stars Return to form with thrash and speed metal. 4.5/5 January 16, 2012
Format:Audio CD
For their 30th anniversary album since Welcome To Hell, this has to be the closest of the early 80's venom as you can get. Since Cast in Stone, Venom changed into the slower, heavier macho metal band that was more common in the 90's and 2000's. I wasn't as impressed with that, resurrection, or Hell. Metal Black at least tried. But Fallen Angels sounds like an album that came straight out of the 80's thrash era. Every song has at least one great solo guitar riff if not more, the production is perfect for venom (not too high, or as low as their first album) Cronos is more brutal in his vocals than ever, and in my opinion, although the lyrics aren't as dark as their first 3, this has to be the best album since At War With Satan. Key tracks are Nemesis, Pedal to the Metal, Lap of the Gods, Damnation of Souls, Beggarman, Punks Not Dead, Sin, In The Valley of the Kings, and the title song, Fallen Angels. Fallen Angels doesn't reinvent, or is in anyway groundbreaking. It's an album for those who crave some nostalgic sound from the greatest era in metal history.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Songs With Excellent Production! March 10, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I have to start with mix and mastering .... This is by far Venom's best production to date. It sounds like they recorded it with plenty of headroom, and it's mastered with limited compression... there is actually some dynamics on this album. Fallen Angels is a breath of fresh air in this overly compressed and digitally distorted world of rock/metal music these days. The mix on this album is fantastic, unlike many of Venom's past releases, they have a very raw sound with bass & guitar almost centered mono with the drums up-front in semi stereo imaging. For some reason Venom continued using that mixing technique on some songs even up until recently, which I thought didn't do their music justice at all. You'll also hear that type of mix on Motrohead's Ace Of Spades among others. Then you have the over compression and digital clipping heard on their Metal Black album .... total ear fatigue after awhile! Fallen Angels is a great sounding album and hopefully will be the beginning of a string of well produced albums by Venom.

Song writing on Fallen Angels is right on par with the British metal style of the early 80's . Most of the music on this album is a sonic total frontal assault, which for me at least is great to hear again. It will definitely give any stereo system a good work-out when cranked-up.... and still sound good! Venom are the godfathers of black metal with Cronos (Now morphed into one of the most scariest looking dudes in metal) as the supreme torchbearer, he's the real deal. Here's a brief track by track look at Venom's Fallen Angels -

1. Hammerhead - A slow grinding salute to headbangers with a throw your fist in the air chorus. Nice opener.
2. Nemesis - The only 2/2 thrash song on the album and my personal favorite. Nice little change in the middle.

This is the closest Venom has come to the original lineup after numerous changes. I hope they stay together. I can't wait to see a live show.

new venom 2011
I'm just now getting around to checking this one out but I'm liking it. Dont really get the negative reviews I've read about it...it's solid and a few songs have a High on Fire vibe to them.
