3.0 out of 5 stars ok, but a little dissapointed by the cover, January 11, 2009
This review is from: Fallen Moon: Daten No Tsuki (Manga) (Paperback)
i bought this at a bookstore thinking, wow, what a gorgeous intresting cover, and i really like mini stories so i thought id get this, well it turns out that the first story is really confusing and hard to understand, and i didnt care much for the other sories accept for the last two, well if your wondering, yes, this is one book with a bunch of mini stories in it, it has 6 different stories : Fallen Moon (the confusing story), Portrait of Memories ( i though was kindof booring), Princess Barbello`s Depression ( ended kindof odd), Garden of Thorns (intresting), The Magic Cat of Hell`s Hill ( my favorite), and Mosaic( was ok, action filled, little confusing) sooo, i dont think any of these stories have anything in common, they are all different and depend on the person reading them, first before i would buy this, i would consider reading it from a freind or at a library, to me, i dont think it was worth the money and the cover was deceiving,

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrid Beyond Reason, July 4, 2009
This review is from: Fallen Moon: Daten No Tsuki (Manga) (Paperback)
What else can I say about this book other than I'd like that hour of my life back? This is one of the absolute worse "yaoi" mangas I've ever read. A collection of short (very short) stories that are neither interesting nor sexy. The caracters are flat and uniteresting. The art is sub-par and often looks very sloppy.

Honestly, I cannot think of one good thing about this book. Don't waste your money or your time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Scattered Plot, Not enough Distinction Between Characters, January 25, 2009
This review is from: Fallen Moon: Daten No Tsuki (Manga) (Paperback)
Rating: 2 Stars for the average manga reader,
+1/2 star to 1 star brownie point if you don't care about story and just want to oogle bishonen guys.

Nutshell Summary:
This manga is made up of six short stories that are ~very~ loosely tied together through a line of male angels and/or demons.
1. Fallen Moon - An angel named Lucas is banished from his home to die in the desert, but is rescued by another angel who's intentions seem suspicious at best...
My Opinion: Could have used better word bubble placement. Too many characters with brief or no backgrounds made it hard to understand why everyone was involved. Too easy to confuse characters as many look too similar to each other.

2. Portrait of Memories - A famous painter is requested to paint a woman by vocal description only. There is some sort of connection between this particular woman and the painter, but the client is the only one who knows this and he has his own agenda...
My Opinion: This story had a much more clear plot than the first. It (until the end) involves only two characters that are easy to distinguish from each other. The only problem with this tale is that it feels like it was cut far too short.

3. Princess Barbello's Depression - A three page brief about a princess who won't go to a dinner because one of the angels attending is prettier than her.
My Opinion: This story should have been dropped. It was meant as a humorous break but fails miserably. It's very out of place.

4. Garden of Thorns - A tale about an undying seer who is being used to help a new young king bring about his wish for his country.
My Opinion: The idea for the story is good. The young king's true objective is a nice twist. Poor story telling skills during the Seer's background and the demon's cryptic message that is never fully explained will leave the reader confused.

5. The Magic Cat of Hell's Hill - While looking for the sorcerer she serves, a maid stumbles across a magic catboy looking for the girl that used to own him. However, someone else has come to the mansion looking for the catboy to use his powers...
My Opinion: Probably one of the best written ones in the book (though I personally like Portrait of Memories better). It is probably the only story that is mostly understandable, has interesting characters all around, and has a story that ends but does not leave the reading hanging.

6. Mosaic - Two young men make their living as demon hunters with their ability to see demons for what they are. One of the young men named Rui discovers there is more to his partner than what seems...
My Opinion: Story was good up until the revelation about Rui's partner, Serei. The details about Serei's actions and what happened to Serei is comes out of nowhere. The idea behind the story is good, but could have been written much better with fewer plot holes.

Overall View:
The manga has its moments. While 'Portrait of Memories' and 'The Magic Cat of Hell's Hill' are good in their own right, and all but 'Princess Barbello's Depression' COULD have been good stories, unless you buy the manga for some of the pretty boys inside, this one is better borrowed from a friend than one for the list to buy.
