In the streets of Chicago exists an uneasy, centuries-old truce between vampires and their distant cousins, a race of shifters called drecks. Vampire enforcement agency, All the King's Men (AKM), is charged with maintaining the truce, but when volatile enforcer Micah Black loses his mate and falls into the biological agony that results from the broken bond, he tests the boundaries of the truce by seeking out Apostle, a leader in the dreck community. Micah wants Apostle to kill him, a request Apostle is more than happy to fulfill.

When ex-Army medic Samantha Garrett inadvertently disrupts the plot and saves Micah's life, a chain reaction sets Micah's heart on a collision course with Sam's, but he will have to protect her from Apostle and her obsessive ex-husband, Steve, if they will have a chance at forever. Can Micah hold his emotions together to keep Sam alive?

This book contains explicit sexual content, references to bisexuality and BDSM, knife play, strong profanity, and an explicit sexual scene between two males.

What Readers Have to Say about Rise of the Fallen:
"It's been a long time since a series has snagged my attention as thoroughly as the Black Dagger Brotherhood did, but All the King's Men has that distractingly addictive potential and this first story in the series hold nothing back." -GraveTells

"RISE OF THE FALLEN left me breathless and begging for more. It's filled with tension, romance, conflict, and a cast of characters screaming to tell their own stories. Being a debut novel, I cannot believe how well written this book is." -LoveMyBooks

"This book really took me by surprise! I wasn't expecting to love it this much but I did and I'm so glad I've found this author! It's so refreshing to find a Vampire story that isn't so much like all of the others out there but Donya Lynne has succeeded in making this book original and quite entertaining!" -Book Lovin Mamas

"When you can engage a reader's interest in all the characters and have them wanting more of each, you have a winner...I loved how real the characters felt." -United By Books

5.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining April 2, 2012
By Sunne
Format:Kindle Edition
So I think amazon had suggested me that book and I was interested because I recognized the model on the cover (I'm an Adrei Andrei fan). I downloaded the sample and decided to read it after my next book. Accidently I "met" the author on facebook a few days later and got in a short conversation with her (she commented on a post of friend of mine). That was fun. I promised her an honest review. Here it is:

I really loved this book. It is PNR and it has traits that reminds of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. But let's face it - it is not BDB. So much said at the beginning. And that is good because these books are already getting written by Mrs. Ward. Donya Lynne creates another world - not as absolute as BDB. Her characters have different abilities. For example: Yes, we find "mating" and "bonding", but it must not be unbreakable. Some of the vampires are able to walk outside during the days (due to the fact that they have human blood, too). So - even if the book isn't as long and complex, there are different ideas already behind it, that makes me want to read more. Thus saying: My only complaint is that the book is too short. I would have loved to read more. On the other hand, the book is fast paced, you never get bored, you can read it very fluently. You just don't notice that time is running.

I don't want to tell the story here, you need to read it. I love the way both hero and heroine are described; Not just perfect but with little flaws in behavior. I especially likes Sam because she is neither the fragile beauty with a core of steel nor the kickass fighter woman(these are the stereotypes for female characters). She is a bit of both and then mostly herself - and she knows what she wants without being hardass. Nice done. And well, Micah....hm...yummy..and so conflicting...

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air. March 24, 2012
By Wowed1
Format:Kindle Edition
I hardly ever give a book five stars, but this was a rare story, I just couldn't put down. This author has taken a way over populated paranormal genre and brought us something different. Her characters are strong, yet troubled. You have no problem relating the their emotions and it's nice to see something where a vampire's life is not perfect. Rise of the fallen gave me what many of the mainstream authors I have loved for years have started failing to give. Where they have left me wishing for more, and leaving me feeling like there just could have been more to the book, Micah Black's story took me to the edge and dropped me over it. I wasn't left feeling cheated as I set the book down. I look forward to this authors series. If she continues with work like this, she could easily join or surpass the ranks of Ward, Kenyon, and Feehan. Well written, well thought out and a total joy to read that left me longing for the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars LITERAL ADDICTION's Review of Rise of the Fallen May 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:

Generally I don't like to do the comparison thing, but I feel like I sort of have to here so people get a bit of a feel of what they'll be jumping into. ALL THE KINGS MEN is sort of like a subset of The Black Dagger Brotherhood, meets Alpha Pack, meets Brotherhood of Blood.

All the Kings Men is a group of warriors trained to fight rogue shapeshifters and other problematic preternaturals.

Micah is one of the strongest on the team, but he's had a rough run with his mates and is in a VERY bad place as the story begins. He's a complex, tortured, bad boy and if you like alpha males, you can't help but love him and feel for the guy.

Sam is one of those bad a** heroines that you love to love. She holds her own, looks out for others, is sexy, savvy and smart.

Her and Micah together are absolute dynamite! The sexual chemistry of these two literally jumps off of the page and you can't help but re-read sections because they are really...just...that...good!

The supporting cast was phenomenal as well. I personally cannot wait to find out more about Trace, the myserious self appointed guardian of Micah and best friend of the couple. There is so much more than meets the eye with him and I am so excited to find out what's up.

The bad guys in this tale were nasty. Diabolical in their scheming, ruthless in their pursuit, and utterly enjoyable to read.

If you haven't gotten the hint, I loved the book. I thought it was fantastic. My one problem was the ending because I am not a fan of the cliff-hanger and Donya was a dirty tease at the end of this book. The bonus is that I don't have to wait long for book #2 to find out what the heck happens.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING! March 28, 2012

What to say about this book? RISE OF THE FALLEN left me breathless and begging for more. It's filled with tension, romance, conflict, and a cast of characters screaming to tell their own stories. Being a debut novel, I can not believe how well written this book is. Mark my words this is not the last of Donya Lynne or of her world known as ALL THE KING'S MEN. Bring on book 2!

3.0 out of 5 stars Half a book June 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Up until nearly the end of the book I was actually very much enjoying the characters and the storyline, even suspending my disbelief at the now old trope of Vampire 'bonding' which has reached the point of overuse. Micah is gnarly, irascible, unstable and coming down off a failed relationship with suicidal tendencies. Samantha, 'Sam', is the exotic dancer with a past who inadvertently interferes with Micah's plans to resolve his despondency issues. Sparks fly, good hearty sex ensues. Micah also has a mysterious guardian, Trace, who befriends the man, almost against Micah's will. Where the story fell apart was the tease at the end, with implications that Trace wants a relationship beyond friendship with Micah, the resolution of Sam's problem is really unsatisfying and the spectre of BDSM elements rears up. Sam is an especially vexing character: nominally an ex military medic she has certain skills that are never tapped (beyond the incident using the gun)and at the end we are left with questions about what she becomes. This is clearly part of a series but I felt cheated which is too bad because there's enough here to be entertaining.
