Review

"This book has an intriguing plot. There are many unexpected twists and turns. The pages just couldn't turn fast enough; I could hardly wait to see what would happen on the next page. This book has something for everyone, intrigue, mystery and romance. I highly recommend 'Falling Angels.'"

I wasn't really expecting this to be as good as it was! I read the previous reviews before getting this book and recall one of them saying they were fans of James Patterson and loving this book as well.

That intrigued me because Patterson is a fantastic writer. I gave this a chance (admittedly, starting out skeptical of that claim) and I'm glad I did and concur that mystery writer, Melissa M. Garcia is on the same level in her own way.

Her chapters are longer than Patterson's trade mark shorts ones, but her ability to keep you wondering what is going to happen next is on the same plane! It starts with a kid from the wrong side of the tracks becoming the protector of a very rich little girl. Which initially might seem like a weak story line, but the detail, the description of the relationship, and the characters themselves are all not only interesting, but very realistic!

And if you're expecting a "boy in love with girl story he can't have or doesn't deserve", you would be doing yourself a disservice, if you think that will make this an uninteresting read.

Various things are dealt with from police brutality, murder, good lawyers (and bad ones), drugs, gangs and the lives that some people are not only born into, but are fortunate if they survive, and how that life shapes the minds of those exposed to it (sometimes) in different ways.

Luc is what I would call an anti hero. If your looking for a "Knight" in shining armor look else where, but if your looking for someone hardened by the streets, with his own code of how to handle life and who is admittedly bad, but has one thing in life he would die to protect, then this is the book for you!

While Luc heard the sound of the ball striking the bat, the murderer of eighteen-year-old Angel here's the sound of a gun. "It is a sad day when an Angel dies. So I have to ask this. How many angels have to fall before we stand up and take notice? How many more Angels have to die before we realize there is a larger problem that needs to be fixed?"

A frantic call from Mattie concerning her missing husband sends Luc rushing to her side and old feelings for her begin to haunt him. Now he's become a suspect.

Luc was jealous of Spencer throughout college. He seen to have everything Luc had ever wanted, a loving family and a beautiful wife. He was jealous but the two remained friends. "I was starting to worry that Spencer was no longer alive...there was a good chance he was already dead...I still needed to know why. I needed to find him not only for Mattie. I now needed to know if he was the same man I had met in college. I needed to know what went wrong and how badly he had screwed up his life."

When Luc pulled the knife and held it to the face of the "child" in the alley I was shocked. He had a good reason but this part of the book grabbed me for it helped define the character of Luc. Luc is strong and independent. He takes nothing off of anyone. Mattie is beautiful, strong, independent and married to a man she's not in love with. Luc had no idea he was the man.

This book has an intriguing plot. There are many unexpected twists and turns. The pages just couldn't turn fast enough; I could hardly wait to see what would happen on the next page. This book has something for everyone, intrigue, mystery and romance. I highly recommend "Falling Angels."

The book flowed beautifully and although I normally do not like reading chapters that go from present to past, I found myself looking forward to Luc and Mattie's back story. The characters intertwined well with each other, and as compared to some mysteries I have read where they are used for `filler', all were relevant in Falling Angles.

I was fascinated by Luc and it is rare that a character in a book can intrigue me that much. Being a fan of the mystery genre, and a 1st edition collector, I rank Luc with the best of them including characters; Kay Scarpetta, Kate Shugak, Dirk Pitt, Smokey Barrett, Archie Sheridan, Alex Cross and Aloysius Pendergast. I hope you will continue with the series and let us learn more about Luc's past, and possibly Luc and Mattie's future.

I appreciate Amy turning me on to your book and I sincerely look forward to your future books!

Great Job!

Milica
