My name is Toni Aleo!
I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I have been told I have anger issues, but I think it's cause of my intense love for hockey!
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena's glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn't pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son's hockey games, my daughter's dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.
I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life...probably Belle, and did I mention I love hockey?
I hope to hear from you on here, my Facebook, or my twitter! Thank you so much!

As usual, I loved this book! Likeable characters, hot sex, humor, and a good story. I liked that it could have been a stand-alone book, but those who have read the first three books in the Assassins series will see some recurring parts. My only "complaint" is that I would have liked an epilogue at the end. Hopefully book 4 has a bit about Jordan and Aynslee. Toni has a great writing style and I'm looking forward to the next book - wish this novella had been a full-length novel!

I liked this book. The heroine is a confident teacher with red hair and freckles. The hero, a professional hockey goalie, is regaining his self confidence after an injury. He is in the middle of a change the terms of the city in which he plays and this creates a genuine conflict. The chemistry between them is hot.

The things that make this story not so great is that there are a great deal of serendipity in the story that tests the limits of beliefs in a contempory romance. The running into each other in the city the size of Nashville I can believe. There is just some running into each other families that strain credibility. Other things could have been done with the plot in such a small space instead that would have enhanced the romance. I would have liked for him to have planned to go to her family's bar.

I believe that the conflict and angst are real and also could have not been resolved for a bit because of the hero's reluctance to ask and the heroine's reluctance to risk but the five minute clean up was just less than satisfying.

I like this couple and this hockey world. I think with their own full sized romance I would have liked the book even more but it was a good fast read on a Friday night.

I was given this book for my honest review. So, there you have it.

4.5 Stars

Falling for the backup is a short, sexy, tender novella in The Assassins series. It is the perfect hockey fix to hold us over until the next installment, Blue Lines is released.

Ms. Aleo is a pro and creating captivating characters that are easy to relate to and impossible to not completely fall in love with. Her knowledge and love of the game is obvious as she actually places you right into the scene as you read the pages.

Jordan and Aynslee have burrowed a special place in my heart. They each have a professional agenda that doesn't give them much hope for a relationship. They both learn that with love comes sacrifice and compromise. It's an endearing journey to watch them figure out how to attain a future together.

I loved the way Jordan was portrayed. It's a completely different angle from most hockey heroes I have read about. After an injury has taken him from the starting goaltender to the backup, he really struggles to find his way in the game he loves. He not only lost his spot on the team, he lost his confidence. Usually hockey men are portrayed as cocky hard ass alpha men who show little weakness. That is not the case with Jordan. He is confused, shy, self-conscious, and even embarrassed about sitting on the bench. She really gave us an honest view from a player perspective how it tears them up inside to not be able to play the game they love. Hockey is much more than just a career choice, its life for these players. To be pulled away and have to watch instead of skate is pure agony. Jordan has a lot to work through in this book and it's not easy for him at times, but Aynslee is just what he needs to pull him through and help him shine.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not into sports. At all. Besides ogling some of the players, I have no interest. Yet for some reason, I love Toni Aleo’s Assassins series! There is just something about her characters and writing I love. This novella was no exception!

Aynslee is 31, a teacher, and she is single. Coming from a large Irish family, there is a lot of pressure for her to marry, have babies etc. Jordan Ryan is a goalie for the Nashville Assassins. He used to be the best of the best, but two years ago he was injured. Now he is just the backup goalie. Aynslee and Jordan meet on an airplane. There is an instant attraction between the two. Jordan was great- but I Aynslee won me over right away!

She won me over right then and there. Ever since Jordan was injured, he has become insecure both on and off the ice. Aynslee knows that instant connection they felt is something she has to pursue, so even though Jordan is a little shy- she goes after him. Aynslee is sweet, funny, and supportive of Jordan. Although Jordan is shy and insecure at first, he is also very sweet, sexy and just amazing! Loved these two together. With Jordan’s career on the line, he isn’t sure where their relationship is going, he’s afraid of someone getting hurt, but he has to be with her.

This was a fabulous novella. It was emotional, sweet, steamy and heartwarming. The ending left me with a huge smile on my face! All fans of The Assassin's series need to pick this one up right away!

I really love the Assassins Series, even though I know nothing about hockey, Toni Aleo is giving me a hockeymacation. My favorite type of series are the ones that aren't cliffy and the same characters are part of each book. I get attached to the hockey players and their families and friends. It's like a reunion when I get to read each new book and catch up on their lives. I love Toni's writing style, she makes me feel like I'm in the room as I laugh at the witty banter and blush at the sexy scenes. Falling For The Backup is a short, sweet, funny, and hot novella. The chemistry between Aynslee & Jordan (aka Mr. Sex) is immediate and strong. I really enjoyed getting to know them and look forward to many more books in this series. ❤️
