Sensational,
By Julbean (maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Falling (Hardcover)
I was weary of reading this book at first because it wasnt considered Pike's usual Horror genre.Of course I still had to read it,as anything by Christopher Pike is worthy.
I dont want to spoil this book for anyone who wants to read it,so I'm not going to give away the plot. Only to say that as soon as you begin this book,it is immeaditely interesting and hooks the reader. We learn about Matt Conner and how he plans to fake his own death because his girlfriend has broken his heart. There is also FBI agent Kelly Fienman who is tracking the strange serial killer named The "Acid Man". This book brought about many emotions from myself that shocked me.I got very angry with one of the characters and I even cried a little at the end. Mostly though because the book was over. This book is exactly what is says on the cover~Literary crack cocaine! I recommend this book to all Christopher Pike fans and anyone who just wants a great read!

You can relate to the characters,

Having grown up with Christopher Pike books and having read them all, I was once again amazed by his writing.
This book can not be put down, it can not be read chapter by chapter. I devoured the book as quickly as I could. The book and its characters evoked emotions such emotions: I cried with the betrayl, I felt the revenge and anger. I've already recommended this book to everyone I know. I wish there were more Pike books to tide me over, and I have no idea when he'll come out with another. This was better than any other crime thriller I've read in years, and I'd love to see this become a movie. The "Acid Man" was a great idea for a serial killer, and even greater to see portrayed in a movie. Exactly as the reviews said, "Literary Crack Cocaine."

A supense novel that will give you chills,

This review is from: Falling (Hardcover)
Pike writes for the young adult market, or rather, has, for years, so you may not have picked up anything by him before.
"Falling" is simply, flat-out, wonderful. I read lots of mysteries. It's hard to surprise me, hard to see a twist in the plot that I haven't already guessed at long before it arrives. "Falling" manages not one, but many twists, all of them shocking, yet all logical. And here's another bonus: the characters are interesting! Even if the writer can come up with new variations in his book, usually the characters are dull. This is one book that has both a fast moving and intricate plot, and characters that are believable and intriguing from the first page to the last.

Ridiculously Enjoyable, His Best Book Yet,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Falling (Hardcover)
I have read almost every single book Christopher Pike has put written. My first was The Last Vampire, and it was by far my favorite of all his books up until Falling. He's a brilliant author. In typical Pike fashion, he manages to keep you HOOKED until the very end. I have found, and I'm sure many people will agree, that once you start reading, you wish you could just read it straight through.
Falling is a very nice sized book, and I actually found myself thinking about the book and trying to "figure things out" before I would read a few more chapters each night. Pike has an amazing ability to to keep you guessing, and in the end, you're always wrong. His twists are what I love in his novels, but second to that is his creativity in describing the lives, minds, and feelings of each his characters. If you've read any of his books, you can expect the usual.. you will fall in love with everyone in the book, and be heartbroken when you finish, but only because there will be no more to read. Buy this book. Read it. Love it. Christopher Pike has been my favorite author for almost a decade, and I hope he continues to release books as quickly as he can dish them out.

His best adult book since "The Season of Passage",
By
This review is from: Falling (Hardcover)
After the disappointing "The Blind Mirror", Pike returns to full form with "Falling", his first non-supernatural adult novel. The story may be familiar, reckless FBI Agent uses a serial killer she brought down herself to help solve another case, but Pike is clever enough to use that familiarity to springboard the plot and the characters in unexpected directions.
The action and pacing of the book is nicely brisk, the tone leaps wildly from melodrama to tense thriller to investigative mystery, and in places is downright chilling. Pike is deftly able to keep the entire story gelled together, though some parts will try suspension of disbelief. The characters themselves are where the book both succeeds and fails. Pike is at his best when writing strong female leads and Agent Feinman is a prime example of this. She is capable without being Mary-Sue like, reckless but not necessarily stupid and intelligent enough to see her own failings. Matt on the other hand is shown to be intelligent and brave, but only when the plot suits. All other times he is a gullible idiot, an irritating two dimensional character warbling incessantly about his pain. On the other hand the primary antagonist, the Acid Man, is very well written and it's a shame we don't see more of him. Fans of Pike will love "Falling" and I highly recommend it to anyone else expecting an intelligent and well thought out thriller. 8.5/10

Incredibly Good,
This review is from: Falling (Hardcover)
You start out by thinking this is just another mystery and that you'll have everything figured out by page 50. Wrong! Just when it seems everything's moving along in predictable fashion, Pike hits you with a curveball you never see coming. Every page is a buildup to an astonishing ending brought forth by some extraordinary characters. Before you begin reading, make sure to turn off the phone, put out the cat and place a "Do Not Disturb" sign on your front door. It's impossible to put this one down.

Spooky and suspenseful,

I'm very familiar with Pike's work, and thus refused to buy Falling until I had a full free weekend. And it is a good thing I did - I couldn't put it down (even at 4am with my eyes burning) I had to read 'just a little more'. I had to force myself to pause once in a while to think over what I had read, and to see if I could figure out where the story was going. Hah, is if. I couldn't even figure out which characters were the good guys and the bad guys. Heck, I'm still not sure, even after having finished it.
Some books I read because they have a great plot, others because I love the writing style, or others still because of the great characters. This book has the rarest combination of all three. I'm already looking forward the next thing Pike comes out with.

The Falling,

It's the best from Christopher Pike so far. I just love the way the story was written. You can sense parts of Pike in the book, as well as, it gives you an in-depth look at how he has matured from the previous young adult books. You simply must get this book for your collection and I guarantee you that it's worth the time to read it.

Perfection! Pike Rocks Again.,
By Palaka "palakahope" (SB,CA) - See all my reviews

This book is intense and unpredictable. The characters are complex and unique. It was a wild ride reading it over the last couple days. I kept trying to guess what was next in the story but Pike masterfully intertwines characters and stories to fit a perfect puzzle that only he knows. That of course is his forte anyway. I had really high expectations reading it and they were met and even exceeded. I strongly encourage anyone who wants to read a great story to read this book called Falling. You will not regret it. This is the kind of book you will get excited about and want everyone you know (or care about) to read, so that they can get exquisitely entertained.

Amazingly twisted tale from the man who does it best,
By Jackie (cali) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Falling (Hardcover)
Christopher Pike has long been my favorite author. For almost 20 years I have watched his ideas and plots evolve. "Falling" brings together some of his most memorable themes, while refreshing them to tell a new story. The way he words his books is beyond compare. If you are new to Christopher Pike's specific brand of storytelling, this book will enthrall you and most likely encourage you to read more of his spellbinding tales. If you are a veteran to his work, welcome back! This book is classic Pike, through and through.
