True Christian Introspection,
By "nicholynn" (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Falling Forward (Audio CD)
After one listen to Maggie B.'s latest offering I was hooked. Each and every song screams intensity. This isn't the same mere "Christian fluff" that I believe many artists create in order to maintain a certain image. "Falling Forward" is an outpouring of all emotions, both the incredible satisfaction that comes with knowing God as well as the pure frustration and inadequacy that we each face as humans. By looking within herself and creating such a powerful album both lyrically and vocally, Margaret Becker has given us a musical gift for all time. She figuratively ripped my heart out, and I'll gladly wait another three years for one more of these introspective looks at Maggie B. No one can walk away from "Falling Forward" without an alteration of mind, body, and soul.

Is there nothing Margaret Becker can't do well?,
By
This review is from: Falling Forward (Audio CD)
After listening to Margaret Becker's soulful CD "Falling Forward," the question arises as to whether there is anything Margaret Becker cannot do exceptionally well. "Falling Forward," like all her previous albums, contains thoughtful and penetrating insight into one's personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the walk that relationship produces. The music is both provocative and soulful. Every song illuminates the Christian's relationship with Jesus Christ in a new way. This album comes highly recommended and is clearly one of her best, if not the best she has produced. There is no doubt that her music will cascade over both your ears and spirit leaving you refreshed while still desiring to strengthen your relationship to Jesus Christ.

Lyrically and musically sensational!,

Only Margaret could pull off such a feat as "Falling Forward," though she would be the first to say that this album was not all her doing. Although she is quite capable of single-handedly creating a grammy-worthy album (and this IS grammy worthy), she made this a collaborative effort with other musicians, authors, and two producers. However, as with her previous albums, "Falling Forward" is remarkable because her lyrics discuss with brutal honesty her present relationship with God. Without apology, Margaret asks questions without contriving answers ("I Don't Know How"), shares her fears and hopes ("Horses," "Clay and Water," "Irish Sea," and "Coins and Promises"), reveals her limitations ("Cave it in," and "Deliver Me"), and disusses her devotion to God ("Crawl," and "I Testify"), at times, in very intimate ways ("Any Kind of Light"). "Fallling Foward" is both an artistic departure from her other albums and a musical return. The departure is simply due to her own professional and spiritual maturation over the past three years. The guitar-driven nature of these songs is reminiscent of her first two albums, though this would not establish her as the "Queen of Christian Rock" when judged by contemporary standards. If, as I do, you love this album because Margaret's every vocal drips with her passion for God, then check out her earlier albums, "Immigrant's Daughter" and "Soul."

A unique viewpoint,
By kay316@aol.com (Somewhere in Wisconsin) - See all my reviews

Margaret Becker possesses a unique musical gift that has never been more clearly reflected than on Falling Forward. Her music embodies paradoxes--expressing both tenderness and passion, vulnerability and determination, yearning and fulfillment. It is a starkly honest expression of a human being's relationship with a God who, while loved and longed for, cannot be put into a simple box and cannot be easily defined or explained. Rather, Margaret's words paint pictures, revealing a God who's love and constancy can truly only be described as Divine. The music, raw and with a bit of an edge and plenty of guitars, supports the lyrical bed perfectly--it is honest, unpretentious and alive.

Really Great cd!,

My dad is a big fan of Margaret Becker and I borrowed this cd of his and I thought it was really good. This cd has songs that she wrote and she talks about her faith and her love for God. She makes it better with her music and how it is makes me want to listen to it over and over. Her music is more of a Mellow rock and just makes you relax. I love singing to some of the fast and Medium songs like I Testify, Irish Sea, Crawl and Cave It In. When I want to relax I really like listening to I Don't Know How, Clay and Water and Horses. Really a Good cd. Check this cd out if you like slow and Mellow Rock.

Becker Rocks Any Way She Falls,
By A Customer
This review is from: Falling Forward (Audio CD)
I find Margaret Becker's music causes me to take a close look at my walk. Her lyrics make me want to seek the Lord the way she does. Cave It In refers to the feeling that the Lord is just a breath away, but sometimes it seems difficult to find Him. Any Kind of Light has a jazz night club feel to it and delights in the discovery of the Lord. Horses reminds the listener that life does end and we need to be ready. The popular Clay and Water paints a lyrical picture of the believer's life being molded by the Master Potter.Becker's music is on the rock side of the mismash know as Adult Contemporary Christian Pop, but not classified as hard rock or Alternative. Her sound has a clean guitar edge to it and she has a wide range of vocals. This is one of my all-time favorite albums.

I'm very pleasantly surprised!,

I have heard two other M. Becker cd's and the music did nothing for me. It was too close to standard CCM fare. Her songs on the Ashton/Becker/Dente disc were my least favorite. So, I really was in no hurry to listen to or buy "Falling Forward". But I decided to give it a listen in the store and I was not expecting what I heard. VERY VERY CREATIVE music with excellent production. I've had this cd for a couple of months now and I cannot stop playing it. It's a stunning collection of work. The music is just quirky enough to stay interesting and the lyrics are refreshingly honest. It took some time, but this was the cd that finally won me over!

Worth the wait!,

Maggie's latest does not contain an ounce of christian fluff or jargon; rather the songs are a mirror of the walk of a true disciple of Christ. Her passion for her Master takes your breath away and made this listener stop and realise that a re-ordering of priorities was needed. 'Horses' is a wonderful reminder of the need to number one's days aright and 'Clay and Water' is solace to the soul. This release will minister to weary and disenchanted hearts.

I am a die-hard Margaret Becker fan; I have been since she released "Never For Nothing." Her lyrics are deep and introspective. I loved every cut on this project.

My Default CD,

This is truly the best CD I own. I listen to it every day and every time I try a different CD I always have to come back to this one. It is incredible. Maggie's lyrics are in depth and really make you think and her music is full of variety. "Cave it In" has some good rock guitar, "Clay and Water" is a nice soft guitar, and "Any Kind of Light" is jazzy. This CD constantly makes me want to get closer and closer to God!
