Explores the nature of love, religion and faith, April 25, 2007
This review is from: Falling Idols (Hardcover)
As implied by its title, Hodge's latest explores the institutions of love, religion and faith. Examples include "Stick Around, It Gets Worse", in which the protagonist's life is torn apart by the senseless death of his wife, and "The Dripping of Sundered Wineskins" which follows a Catholic's struggle to understand the reality that may have inspired his faith. Driven by the power of Hodge's ideas and the originality of his plots, this collection is consistently engaging. Each tale is a success, unique and readable. Together, the eight stories in this collection provide an even more powerful reading experience, reflecting, as Hodge states in his afterward, the time he spent in "some pretty dreadful places, psychologically and even metaphysically speaking."
