"Falling for a Lie: New Age Beliefs Nearly Killed Me." by Jay Christian, as told to Helen Hearvirland, is an outstanding glimpse into the extra-ordinary life of an ordinary young man. Once I started reading the book, it held my attention through twenty chapters. At midnight I collapsed into sleep. After breakfast, with my energy restored, the grace and beauty of his fulfillment sparkled through the final pages.

Great book. New Age religion is pretty scary - and Jay Christian became so caught up, it took over his life, and not for the better. There's a "hook" in New Age and this book helps the reader to identify "the Lie".

A TESTIMONY OF CONVERSION FROM "NEW AGE" TO 7TH-DAY ADVENTISM,
By
This review is from: Falling for a Lie: New Age Beliefs Nearly Killed Me (Paperback)
Although Jay Christian was raised as a Christian, he relates in this 1998 book that "On Sundays I sometimes went to church with various girlfriends. But the differences bugged me... I asked several different pastors about the discrepancies (in the Bible) after the service. They fumbled, then came up with justification from doctrines... Questioning preachers became my Sunday morning entertainment." Later, when he was working as a disc jockey for a Southern California radio station, he was introduced to a class in self-hypnosis, which began his journey into "New Age" beliefs, until he finally converted to Christianity (7th-day Adventism).
Here are some additional quotations from the book: "'The Bible was changed to take out all the references to reincarnation,' I told him. 'Fortunately, a few texts that speak of reincarnation were missed. For instance, if you're familiar with the Bible, you remember the story of Jesus seeing a man who was born blind. And Jesus' disciples asked him, "Who sinned to cause this man to be born blind---this man or his parents?" ... How could the blind man have sinned before he was born if he didn't live a previous life?'" (Pg. 35) "'After reading all the Bible says about hell,' Annette said, 'my understanding is that hell' punishment is eternal, but not its punishing. Hell destroys the destruction sin has caused, then Jesus creates a new earth.' I marveled aloud, 'If this is what the Bible says about hell, that doesn't make God out to be an ogre.'" (Pg. 159) "I have changed. I finally know the truth about God---He is love. I finally know the truth about me---I am loved... I fell for a lie. New Age beliefs nearly killed me, but the truth of the Bible set me free..." (Pg. 211-212)

I started reading this book one day and it drew me in. I was intrigued by the story and I couldn't set the book down. The book starts out how Jay Christian was a New Age believer, which I just learned what it is by reading this book, and towards the end Jay finds the truth through Gods word and converts to a true Christian. I liked how the end of each chapter left you hanging so you would read more. I usually don't read books fast, but this one I finished very quickly. I read for hours a day not realizing how much time had passed. I love religious books and documentaries, which may be why I liked this book so much.
