5.0 out of 5 stars Falling in Love Again was an excellent book.
I really enjoyed the depth of the characters and felt that I knew them well by the end of the book. The plot didn't ever become "thin" and held my interest throughout the story. 3.0 out of 5 stars Just ok
I really can't say I loved it. It was good in parts and than slow and boring in others. My biggest problem with the book I think has to do with the heroine. Yes, he abandoned her and so on but after he explains his reasons which were understandable you would think that the wife at some point would understand too, but nope,It takes 245 pages for this 2 to actually get...

I really enjoyed the depth of the characters and felt that I knew them well by the end of the book. The plot didn't ever become "thin" and held my interest throughout the story. There was a hot magnetism between the two main characters; they couldn't stay away from one another even though Mallory did her very best to resist her husband. I enjoyed reading about the "harvest home" and felt that the author not only researched it well but wove it into the plot in a well thought out manner. Readers will fall in love with Falling in Love Again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Romantic Historical, July 20, 2006
By

After the death of her father, Lady Mallory is forced to marry John Barron in order to keep her beloved home Castle Craig. John Barron, is disgusted with his father's schemes to control his life. After the wedding, John escapes Castle Craig and England for a life in the military, leaving behind his young bride to tend to their home. He is guilt ridden that they both have been used as pawns in their family's games and thinks that leaving her is the best plan. Seven years later, John is forced to return from the continent after his fathers death and take up his new position of Viscount. He lives it up in London with gambling and mistresses, all the while his wife is barely eeking by at Castle Craig -unbeknownst to him because he believes that she is well kept with the money he has alloted. Mallory decides enough is enough when she is booted out of her beloved Castle for unpaid debts -her husbands. She seeks him out in London demanding her Castle back and an divorce. John is shocked to meet the fiery beauty. Things go from bad to worse when he learns that his uncle has been mounting debts in his name and has recently disappeared with all his money. Anne and John go on into hiding, posing as steward and his wife, in hopes that the uncle will surface believing his nephew has left the country.

In hiding, Mallory and John fall in love.

The story is absolutely beautiful in the way John tries to redeem himself for leaving Mallory all those years ago. She's reluctant at first, but he lays *siege* and is determined to win her heart. It's very heart warming to see the hero pursue his lady. Very romantic with lots of ~sigh~ scenes. This one's a shelf keeper, definitely makes the heart flutter.

If you liked this one, You and Only You by Maxwell is also terrific.

Lady Mallory and John Barron had no say in their arranged marriage. He was given a nights notice and Mallory was given about a day - all was arranged and two strangers met the wedding night. The wedding night was not to be remembered by Mallory, other than her humiliation that her groom left and would be gone for 7 long years.
Having been forced from Craige Castle for unpaid bills, she went in search of her errant husband with the sole purpose of gaining a divorce. She had heard that he had returned from the continent's wars and was whooping it up in London.

What follows is an absolutely lovely romantic story of love, trust and redemption. I thoroughly enjoyed the attempts of John to woo back his wife and finding himself falling in love with the woman that was once the girl he had left behind. It was so terribly sweet and so romantic. I did not find it boring at all ... This was truly a very touching love story and showed the growth and maturity of the two individuals who learned to overcome obstacles and find themselves to be friends who rather liked one another and then found that once in a lifetime....lasts forever kind of love! Great story!

4.0 out of 5 stars Romantic tale of a husband and wife falling in love, September 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
With an ingenious plot and sympathetic characters, Falling in Love Again is an entertaining light read. There's a dash of humor, a strong romance, and a nicely woven plot with good tension between the protagonists.

Mallory and John meet on their wedding day. Mallory is only sixteen and John just a few years older, they are uncertain of each other and resentful as their parents have arranged their marriage. John must marry Mallory so she can keep her beloved castle and John marries Mallory out of duty (he does not want to see her lose her home) and out of a need to please his father, a man who publicly claims John but privately eschews him because he is not really his flesh and blood.

The day after the wedding John leaves and joins the military determined to forge his own destiny and not the one dictated by his father. Over the years he sends Mallory funds through his uncle but basically lives his own life without laying eyes on his wife. He returns to England and is a sought after lover and quite the man about town.

Mallory finds John in London, in his mistress's house no less, demanding a divorce. She has lost her home to creditors and she is infuriated at her husband. John is astounded to see Mallory and even more surprised to learn that she has no home and that he is deeply in debt. Seems his uncle has been siphoning off his funds and even worse John loan sharks are circling him. John knows he could go to debtor's prison if he does not find his uncle who has conveniently skipped town. As his wife, Mallory could suffer the same fate so they now are on the run.

John's friend lands them a job on one of his family estates, John will become a steward while his friend hunts down his uncle. Mallory agrees to this plan mostly because she feels she has no choice, she wants to avoid prison.

At first it was almost impossible to like John; he was selfish and irresponsible. Mallory is completely justified in her feelings. Their time as estate managers brings out the best of both characters and also their insecurities. John realizes he is self centered and thoughtless; Mallory confronts her lonely life and takes a hard look at her reserved manner with commoners. John is likable, smooth and smart and best of all sincere, when he feels something he does not hold back. Mallory is more cautious, after all she was the abandoned one in the marriage and she is also uncertain in social situations, she lacks John's natural charm. She gets beyond these hindrances and grows into a much more confident woman. As she understands her husband her heart opens to him more each day. This is a sweet romance about discovery, the leads not only discover how much they love each other but they also discover how to become better people too.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT, May 9, 2011
This is an amazing read! --- I love Cathy Maxwell books! Her heroes redeem themselves brilliantly and are well matched with their heroines. This was an excellent book with great characters,a charming romance and a vivacious plot. The plot's end although a bit rushed, was concluded nicely and remained realistic.

5.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable Regency, April 19, 2011
In 1806 when Mallory Edwards was seventeen and John Barron was a few years older, their parents arranged for their marriage. They met on their wedding day for the first time; exchanged vows; and the next morning he left joining the army.

Seven years later, Mallory is tossed from her home due no payment as her wandering husband's uncle stopped sending her allotment. Fuming, Mallory comes to London to confront her husband and demand a divorce. Not caring one iota for proper behavior, she rips his head off in front of his mistress. When John realizes the screaming crone is his wife, he grabs her and leaves his mistress at home. Mallory proves he owns nothing as his fortune has been embezzled while he dallied. Together they seek his missing relative who absconded with his money. However, as they fall in love while hiding as commoners he realizes his wife is an intelligent beauty and no longer the little girl he married; she realizes her husband is an intelligent hunk and no longer the runaway boy she married.

Readers will enjoy this 1997 Regency "Treasure" as the metamorphosis of the lead couple is deftly handled by Cathy Maxwell. John is a selfish boor while Mallory lacks self esteem; each matures as he looks inside himself and dislikes what he sees and she begins to gain confidence. Readers will enjoy this second chance at marriage as this time the protagonists fall in love.

4.0 out of 5 stars It wasn't the best I've ever read..., August 4, 2000
"Falling in Love Again" was not a bad book. In fact, I found I was enjoying it some of the time. I thought the characters had a good deal of potential, and with a bit of tweaking, the story could have been five stars.

The problem I found, was that I was growing bored. I felt the plot wasn't anything new, and the heroine didn't really strike me as stubborn and fierce (though the hero seemed to think so), instead she seemed a bit obnoxious, and I really couldn't see what was so wonderful about her. Another thing I disliked was how they were supposed to be looking for someone, but they spent the entire time on a farm "mucking out the stalls." So the plot slowed down there.

While this book isn't the greatest thing I've ever read, but it was fairly enjoyable. I would recommend not to buy it, but perhaps check it out at a library for a quick, non-heavy read.

Yes, he abandoned her and so on but after he explains his reasons which were understandable you would think that the wife at some point would understand too, but nope,It takes 245 pages for this 2 to actually get together. After they finally get to lie together something else comes up and we have to read another 100 more pages for this women to forgive him again. The story and the idea is not bad the last 40 pages were quit good and romantic but before I reached those I actually struggled to continue reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful uplifting writing, August 11, 2011

I won this book in a contest (Thank you),This is the first book I have read by Cathy Maxwell And it will NOT be my Last, I found that with all the turmoil Mallory went through she eventually listened to her heart. My favorite Quote's in the entire book are " The richest of all men, my dearest love, is a happily married one."
" For now she will be my bride My joy and my dear, and now she'll walk with me anywhere."
Well Cathy Maxwell I will read & Buy your books ANYWHERE.
