Brilliant analysis of the phenomenon of falling in love,
By Shelly R Brown (Honolulu) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Falling in Love (Hardcover)
This may be the best book I have ever read, and being a librarian, this is no small recommendation. Alberoni deciphers the causes and effects of love in a way that no one has before him. Anyone who has every been in love will say, "That is exactly how I felt, now I understand why I felt like that."ÿ

This review is from: Falling in Love (Hardcover)
It took me three years to find this. Was it worth it? Sure.I was introduced to it in France three years ago, but my french language skills are too elementary to understand everything. So I had to find an English version. Very hard indeed. But what is maddening is that hundreds of...books are shoved in our face and books like this cannot even be found in libraries. This book simply tells it like it is; love is not that complicated. The difference between love and "in love" are in fact profound and (yes) easy to understand. The book is very easy to read like many of the... books on "modern love". But, Alberoni doesn't mix words: if you are in love, it is like this! If it is not like this, you are not in love. Also, he points out the all-too-common scenarios of falling in love: in love outside marriage and the 'ones in love, the other is content with the arrangement' and of course 'one believes in love, the other doesn't'. I guess these concepts remain taboo and hence cannot be discussed. Unlike the... self-help books, Alberoni doesn't tell you what to do or what you should do. I like this very much. The problem is that he points out the challenge of our engrained institutions and how these things work against love.

On-target and poetic,
By A Customer
This review is from: Falling in Love (Hardcover)
He describes accurately not only the process of falling in and phenomenon of being in love, but also, with painful accuracy, the agony of falling out of love... Some beautiful passages in this examination of the most beautiful of experiences; highly recommended!!
