absolutely magick-al,
By clarabelle (virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Falling out of Time (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a breathtaking book that should be read by anyone with an interest in magick, fantasy, Ireland, or the craft of writing. It is a bit confusing at first, because there are three different stories going on at once, but as soon as you catch on, you're just taken aback by the complexity and juxtaposition Melling has been able to weave between these worlds of fiction, fantasy, and "reality." I am always (I've read this book at least 7 times) especially impressed with the passages about the writer character, and how she has become entagled in her own characters lives. It's oh-so true!

If there were 300pages more, it would be the very best book,
This review is from: Falling out of Time (Mass Market Paperback)
Finding my first Melling book, while I spend a few days in Ireland, I was courious for more. Falling out of time is the best book of the author - and one of the very best books I've ever read. It is a complete magical world, which is not seperated from the mundane world. It is the magic of love, landscape, life, inside everyone. There is a thin borderline You can cross every time You alter Your point of view - or being altered by a good story, good friend, the spirit of a special place of the countryside or the love You feel inside Your heart. And this will change Your common life, if You let it. Unfortunately the story is much too short. Some 300 pages more and it would lead my personal list of good books.
