One of the Best Movie Songs Ever,
By
This review is from: Falling Slowly (MP3 Download)
And I'm not talking about instrumentals either, I'm talking about lyrical themes to movies that have to embody the movie, and really set the tone for it the movie. However, there is a rarer quality of a movie song, one that if you have not seen said movie, but you here the song first, and you love the song so much that you actually want to see the movie. That is what this song does. While watching these past Oscars they played the nominees for best movie song of the year, and I thought to myself, it all seems so fake. The song from "August Rush" completely missed the mark it was trying to achieve, and "Enchanted" with the exception of "So Close," sounded like typical Disney type fair.
However, then came, "Falling Slowly," a song from a widely unknown film, I was like, "Wow, this is really different, this is beautiful!" And it was all that and more, and the studio version only improved on these precious elements. It's a moving, gentle song that really touches your heart. And like I said, I liked the song so much, I now want to see the actual movie, "Once." Overall, the surprise song of the year, and a feel-good story that these unknown musicians are finally getting the credit and recognition they deserve. Buy this song, and you won't be disappointed. By the way, get this version, there's a longer version that was put out, and it's not as good, because the song seems a little bit too spontaneous and drawn out, and it also loses some of the elements that makes the soundtrack version so great.

I haven't seen this movie but stumbled across the song anyway. Beautifully written and performed. Open and honest lyrics set to a moving tune. Soft, lilting and haunting in a very good way. The musicians voices create an ethreal sound that can make even the cynical believe in love stories.

I stumbled onto this movie by chance, and throughout I kept thinking "These songs are all amazing. I have to check out the soundtrack." Being an ignorant American, I had never heard of Glen Hansard or the fact that in his native country of IRE that he is a well established and respected musician. His band, The Frames, is rumored to be "the real" good music coming from IRE (not U2, thank god). I should have guessed as much from the music alone, but with movies...you just never know. Anyway, the movie is cool but the songs are better. This is my favorite and if you don't give it a listen, you are missing out. AB

The movie was wonderful..one of the better music films of late. But what makes it so much better than the other stuff is that this music fits the movie and vice versa. These two musicians have done a wonderful job creating a "moment>' And, to top it off, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences thinks so too. Bravo and Brava!
