4.0 out of 5 stars A Little Disappointed, But Still A Good Debut
I first heard of Lillix, on Trl a few months ago, and was excited to listen to all 12 tracks when it arrived. I must admit, the songs are catchy, and fun to sing along to, but not all the tracks are that good, and I'll explain why. Half of the tracks are under 3:30 long, and because of that, by the time you get into the song it ends. Even with that being said, I still...

Even with that being said, I still enjoy listening to each song and think it's a good debut. Here's how I rate each song.

1. "Tomorrow" - 10/10 Catchy lryic's, good beat. One of the better tracks, and a great way to start off the cd. Length: 3:44

2. "Quicksand" - 10/10 probably my favorite track on the cd. Some of their best lryic's on the album, are in this song. Length: 3:46

3. "It's About Time" - 10/10 Their first single, and the second best song on the album. All four of them seem to be having fun in this song. The chorus is very catchy. Length: 3:41

4. "Dirty Sunshine" - 8/10 the chorus is probably my least favorite part of the song. However, it's still great. 3:17

5. "Sick" 9/10 Another one of their better tracks. This one is just fun to listen to. Great beat. 3:37

6. "Invisible" 8/10 Once again, the chorus is my least favorite part of the song, but that's because it seems like the rhymes are a bit forced. Here is an example from the chorus "What do you want to see? She. Someone who isn't me." It just feels like they worded it badly, just for the rhymes. 3:44

7. "24/7" 6/10 I know this song is written by Tasha-Ray Evin, by it sounds like a filler track. It's okay, but the repeated use of "24/7" gets annoying. Sadly, this is the longest song on the album coming in at 3:58.

8. "Because" 7/10 This song has a good start, but it ends, before I could get into it. It's soooo short that (in their own words "It's over before it has begun". 2:26

9. "Promises" 9/10 This is their verion of a love ballad. Truth is, I like it, but it's meaning does not seem personal. The lryics sound like any other "don't go" kind of song. 3:22

10. "Fork in the Road" 9/10 A good song, strong lryics. I'm a little suprised that this song is so late in the album, because it's better than a lot of the other tracks. 3:11

11. "Lost and Confused" 8 1/2/10 It's a pretty good song, but not very memorable. 3:16

12. "What I Like About You" 8/10 This song is used for the tv show "What I like about you". It's a good cover, of the original song, but not the best song on the album. 2:47

Overall, this is a very good debut. And the gals of Lillix should NOT be compared to Avril Lavigne. As a fan of both Avril and Lillix, I can tell you that both are good in their own right. The enhanced part of this cd features the video for "It's about time". If you like that song, you should get this cd. If not, you may want to wait and see, based on other future singles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot new Chick Band ready to kick some ass, June 13, 2003
By
This review is from: Falling Uphill (Audio CD)
Canada has done it again. But this time it's not Avril thats stealing the spotlight, it's the all girl rock group "Lillix". The band consists of guitarist Tasha-Ray Evin (17), keyboardist Lacey-Lee Evin (19), bassist Louise Burns (17), and the newest edition to the band drummer Kim Urhahn (23). With all 4 girls playing their own instruments Lillix brings a new style to the music world. Their first single and current hit "It's about time" has claimed a permanent spot on MTV's TRL. One might judge Lillix as a complete copy of Avril Lavigne, but this band is far from it. In fact, "It's about time" is a poor representation of what the rest of the record sounds like. Tracks such as "Dirty Sunshine" and "Sick" clearly show the bands talent for writing powerful lyrics and music. "Quicksand" and "24/7" will have listeners relating to the lyrics, and rockin out to the tune. Overall "Falling Uphill" will inspire you to pick up a guitar (or a pair of drumsticks) and start your own band! This is a great record with a great band backing it up.

It would have been 3 1/2 stars, but ... does not offer that...

First, let's get this straight: LILLIX is NOT rock; they are pure pop. However, that doesn't take away from the fact that they've put out a decent debut album. Perfect for bright, sunny days and roadtrips, most of the songs on Falling Uphill are catchy and better than what's currently on the radio. The girls in LILLIX are definitely talented.

BEST SONGS: Tomorrow, Invisible, Quicksand

WORST SONG: 24/7 It's the only one I consistently skip. It really irks me, annoys me, and drives me up the wall.

Overall, Falling Uphill is worth your money. It's decent pop music.

5.0 out of 5 stars FALLING UPHILL, June 17, 2003
This review is from: Falling Uphill (Audio CD)
FALLING UPHILL
I heard about this band (Lillix) by a family member. They said that the group had really good songs, and can play their instruments really well. I went and bought the CD, and they were nothing short of that description. I know that the song, "It's About Time" isn't liked by many people who have heard it, because of the 'pop' in it, but the rest of the cd is not like that! The rest of the songs are very good with great lyrics and music to them. These girls know how to sing and play their instruments and I think that people should at least give them a chance. My two favourite songs on the CD are "Sick" which has great lyrics and awesome guitar. My other favourite is "Tomorrow" because it's just a really great song, that starts off slow with bass, then goes into a really good upbeat/mid tempo chorus. I myself, play the guitar and these girls really seem like they have been playing their instruments for years. They inspire me to learn more songs on the guitar. KEEP WRITING AND WE'LL KEEP LISTENING GIRLS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lillix: A legend in the Making, June 10, 2003

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Falling Uphill (Audio CD)
One day I got this e-mail about this new band from Canada called Lillix and at first I didn't pay any attention. Finally one day I listened to "It's About Time" and I thought it was a catchy, upbeat song. It was enough to get me hooked.

I bought the album the day it came out and it hasn't left my CD player yet. Falling Uphill is probably the best debut album from any band or artist in a long time. Tasha-Ray Evin is only 17 years old but she plays the guitar like a pro. I believe she is well on her way to being one of the best female guitar players out there. Lacey-Lee Evin is Tasha's older sister (Lacey is 19) and she plays the keyboards. Louise Burns is the 17 year old bass player and she is one of the best bass players I have heard in a while. Kim Urhahn is the 23 year old drummer and she is absolutely awesome behind the skins.

A lot of people like to compare Lillix to Avril Lavigne and Michelle Branch but I don't think that's a fair comparison. They do have certain similarities to these and other artists but these girls are unique. The lead vocals are shared between Lacey-Lee, Tasha-Ray, and Louise and this shared vocal arrangement works amazingly well.

There isn't that many albums out there that I can say I love every song on the album but Falling Uphill is one of those albums that doesn't have a bad song on the album. Every song is absolutely awesome. The girls also write almost every song on the album by themselves. They had help from The Matrix and Linda Perry on a couple songs and they did an incredible cover of "What I Like About You" that rivals the original version by The Romantics. These girls rock, they are extremely talented, and I believe they have a very bright long future in music. I highly recommend everyone buy this album and show support for this talented band that is bringing rock n roll back into the main stream!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome debut from rock band Lillix!, June 2, 2003
By
This review is from: Falling Uphill (Audio CD)
Lillix is the hot new girl group from Canada. They are currently burning up the charts over at TRL with their single, "It's About Time." Here's a break down of their songs:

1. Tomorrow - Great way to start off the CD. This song is mid-tempo and is about being alone after a break up. Really empowering and energetic. It kinda tells you that you're not alone. 5/5

2.Quicksand - A really rock oriented song. Fast and up beat. Really impressive as one of the girls, Louise Burns, wrote this song. 5/5

3. It's About Time - The current single. I think it is a really great song for the summer. It always reminds me of going on a road trip with my girls, having the windows rolled down with this song blasting, and singing along to it. Even if you can't go on vacation yet, try rolling down the windows and blasting the song. It's infectious, guaranteed! 5/5

4. Dirty Sunshine - Very upbeat and rock. Again, the girls contributed in writing this song. 5/5

5. Sick - On this fast song, the girls sing about how they're sick of someone bringing them down and how they won't let them do it to them anymore. Another empowering song. Cool beats that keeps you intrigued for the whole of the song. 5/5

6. Invisible - This song is mid-tempo. It starts out slow but soon gets faster. It's about being your own self and not someone else. 4/5

7. 24/7 - Awesome song!!! I love the lyrics "I wait for you 24/7" You would think a song that uses slang such as 24/7 would be lame but the girls really make it work. It rocks! One of the best tracks. 5/5

8. Because - Another awesome song! Blare this one with the windows rolled down as well! 5/5

9. Promises - A really sweet song with a rock edge to it. 5/5

10. Fork In The Road - Fast rock song. 4/5

11. Lost and Confused - Mid-tempo song that's again one of my favorite tracks. Really would be great to come out as a single around Christmas time. I think it really relates to a lot of people in their 20s. 5/5

12. What I Like About You - Yes, it's a cover and it's also the theme song for the WB show starring Amanda Bynes of the same title. The girls pull it off really well and you'll be singing along in no time. 5/5

All in all, this is a pretty impressive debut. These girls play their own instruments and write their own songs. Also, this CD is enhanced with a bunch of cool bonuses like the awesome video for "It's About Time" and buddy icons, etc. If you like The Donnas, Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, or just good pop rock music, you will love this album. It is guaranteed to stay in your CD player and is the essential beach CD. Get it now, you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow...just...Wow!, July 27, 2003
By
This review is from: Falling Uphill (Audio CD)
I heard "It's About Time" and knew I had to buy this CD! I got it a few days after it came out, and was very happy with it!

1.)Tomorrow ~ I wasn't crazy about the beginning of this song at first, but the chorus is great, the bridge is great, everything is just great! I love the lyrics - they're really fun! 5/5
2.)Quicksand ~ Once again, it's great!!! I honestly think that the girls in Lillix will be popular for a LOOOONG time! The words are great, I love the chorus (I can't reach the sky, w/out being dragged down...) 5/5
3.)It's About Time ~ The reason I bought the CD, I've seen the video...it's really cool! The song's very catchy, and my friends and I sing it all the time. 5/5
4.)Dirty Sunshine ~ Okay, this is the first song on the CD that I don't love. It's pretty good, but I don't think the vocals are that great, and they lyrics are kinda nasty (a spider creeping up the wall, moldy pizza...) 4/5
5.)Sick ~ Thankfully, after a disappointment like Dirty Sunshine, this song is great! The beginning is very in your face and fast - the guitar really rocks on this song! 5/5
6.)Invisible ~ This is the first slower song on the CD, and it's beautiful! Its a little hard to tell what they're saying, but not impossible. It's got an amazingly strong chorus. 5/5
7.)24/7 ~ This one starts out slower too, and the guitar and drums really really rock in "24/7." 4.5/5
8.)Because ~ I love this song! I think it sounds like something that Letters to Cleo ("I Want You to Love Me") would sing. 5/5
9.)Promises ~ Another slower song, with a beautiful guitar piece in the beginning. I love the opening phrase "It's been another day..." I think everyone can relate to this song. 5/5
10.)Fork in the Road ~ After the slower, pretty song "Promises," the song "Fork in the Road" makes you happy and feel like dancing, with some pretty kickin' guitar and vocals in it! 5/5
11.)Lost and Confused ~ My least favorite on the CD, I think this song has the weakest vocals and lyrics. It's not bad...it's just not good. 3/5
12.)What I Like About You ~ What an awesome song! It's almost as good as the original, and it's the theme song to "What I Like About You" - it totally fits the TV show, the characters, etc. 5/5

This CD is AMAZING!!!!!! I strongly recommend it to anyone that likes punk-ish music, or really strong guitar playing!

Overall grade: A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Rising Stars: Lillix, June 9, 2003
By
This review is from: Falling Uphill (Audio CD)
I am always trying to find good new bands to listen to when I'm out shopping. The band has to have soemthing that drawns me in for more, makes me want to listen to the WHOLE CD not just there popular single. When I heard Lillix's first single 'It' About Time' I knew these girls wouldn't be the next one-hit wonder. Tasha-Ray, Lacey-Lee, Louise, and Kim are 4 killer performers and songwriters. Their CD has all kinds of songs on it. The kind you listen to when your down, songs about school life, boys, and anything someone would want to hear a song about. There isn't one song on the CD I dislike. I have been singing its praises since I bought it! The songs all have killer lyrics and a good melody! As a songwriter myself, I don't normally give praises to my future competition, but when I heard Lillix there was no way I could not give them credit for there music! It's killer and always keeps me in a great mood! This CD will definately have a permanent place in my CD changer until the band puts out another album!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lillix is amazing!, June 7, 2003
This review is from: Falling Uphill (Audio CD)
They could be compared to the Donna's, or even Avril Lavigne. But I personally think that Lillix has their own style, ranging from punk rock to soft pop. Every one of their songs are catchy and upbeat, and there is not one song that I really dislike. Their songs are always in my head! They are definitely original and fun. Ever since I heard their single on TRL, "Its About Time" I knew that this was definitely a CD that I had to get.
Their song "Promises" is my absolute favorite song on the whole album. Some other great songs are "Dirty Sunshine," "Quicksand,"Sick," "Tomorrow," and "24/7"
I would recommend this CD for anyone who enjoys good rock/pop music. Buy this CD! Its definitely worth every penny.
