"It’s been a mostly amusing but sometimes frightening role, guest-starring in this strange performance called my life. The Beatles, Kate Bush, George Lucas, Mick Jagger, Bowie, Duran Duran, Gary Numan, Lindsay Kemp, Joan Collins, and Her Majesty The Queen have all figured in it somehow. And if you add sex, drugs, rock ‘n’ roll and a visit from a UFO, you’ll see that I’m spilling beans of a very unusual kind. So come with me, fasten your brainbelt and take a trip with someone old enough to know better but young enough not to care".

Waspishly funny, bizarre, self-deprecating, painfully honest, touching, intelligent, sharply-focused and fresh. Actor, mime, musician, photographer and once upon a time hippy Tim Dry tells his tales of 50 years of outrageous living in Britain.

In this book you'll read all about the history and adventures of TIK & TOK, on the road with SHOCK, filming Star Wars Episode VI 'RETURN OF THE JEDI, the fun and strangeness of Tim's 90 plus TV Commercials, working with GEORG KAJANUS in NOIR and a whole load more!

4.0 out of 5 stars A wickedly good read, December 3, 2007
This review is from: Falling Upwards: Scenes From A Life (Paperback)
I picked up this book earlier in the year expecting a glossy re-telling of the 80's synth-theatre music scene in the UK --- an era of makeup, music and madness that pushed boundaries and produced some of the most surreal populist art this side of the Dadaists in 20's Paris. While I got what I bargained for, I also found a witty, sometimes unflinching autoportrait of a working actor and musician negotiating that tricky realm --- not between art and commerce, but between gainful employment and fragile self-esteem. In an era where celebrity seems to be our only measure of cultural worth, it's refreshing to read about a career artist whose life is fascinating and just as messy as any other mere mortal's.
