5.0 out of 5 stars The US is missing out!
In the summer of 2002, Amy Studt's first single entitled "Just a Little Girl" was released around the globe, including the United States. This was a great single: very bold and inspirational in lyrics and instrumentation. Unfortunately, the song disappeared from the airwaves and she was never heard of again in the US. 3.0 out of 5 stars Give her a chance
She's pretty good i admit, but giving her five stars would be insane, she's got some catchy tunes here, only complaint is she's following in the mould of every other 'misfit' female singer, what is the point in that, she can sing, it's the MUSIC we are bothered about, and yes the music is quite good, just sad the way the music industry has become... i recommend giving her...

I discovered that she finally had released a whole album in 2003, but was disappointed to find that it was NOT going to be released in the US. I purchased it on import from the UK, and although it was expensive and took forever to arrive, it was well worth it. This album is amazing! It's got an excellent variety of styles, both vocally and instrumentally. The lyrics are beautiful and inspiring--sure to touch anyone who may listen. Amy seems to have a wonderful grasp of reality and how to deal with everyday stresses. Her strong, clear voice handles a wide range of styles, expressing so well what she's feeling. The added songs on this particular recording are well worth the extra cash.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Beautiful and Unique, October 12, 2003

When my friend told me to listen to this song called "Just A Little Girl" I was astounded! Her vocal ability was amazing. And with this CD False Smiles I was so impressed. The songs are very very well written (she writes most if not all of them), and they are so beautiful! I have found some other of her music thats not on this CD but I say to anyone who is tired of over produced, too catchy and heartless music that most female singers are putting on the market. Buy this CD! Amy Studt is the most refreshing and orginal artist I've seen in a very very long time. She is my favorite artist, and every one should own this CD.
***Also check out the song "A New Day Breaks" by Amy Studt. It isn't on the CD but it is worth finding it.***

4.0 out of 5 stars just a little girl makes a great album, February 6, 2005
By
This review is from: False Smiles (Audio CD)
False Smiles, the debut album of 17 year old Amy Studt, is quite an eclectic piece of music. Sweet ballads, happy pop and frustrated rock, Amy can do it all. It kicks off with her first single, Just a Little Girl. A songs that seems sweet and poppy, but develops an in-your-face rocky attitude in the chorus. Other songs, like Under the Thumb, follow the same formula. Her second single Misfit is a nice pop tune.

The quality of Amy's lyrics is open for debate. She writes with a painful honesty that leaves little room for interpretation, but is refreshing at the same time. Ladder in My Tights is a nice example of this, with lyrics like Why'd you wanna pick on me and not the rest / Does it make you feel big, does it make you feel clever?. Granted, it's not the best piece of peotic songwriting ever, but you can tell it comes right from the heart. Other songs include Carry Me Away, that makes you think of enchanted forests and faeriedust, Happy Now, that wouldn't look bad in a Broadway musical, and the somewhat political Superior Mind.

I pre-ordered this CD almost a week ago. Yet I still didn't receive the e-mail that my order has been shipped. Anyhow, I download two Hits (just a little girl, misfit) of this album from kazaa. I just love the English accent!
Amy Studt is another Anti-Avril.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic musical talent!, February 13, 2005

I first discovered Amy upon hearing her first single "Just a Little Girl". That was before this album was even released. With this album, she shows so much more! There are a variety of emotions expressed here, mostly angst and sarcasm, but in a different way than what you'd get from Avril Lavigne for instance. The comparisons to Avril should be expected, but Amy's more pop, less punk, and perhaps less formulaic.

There are lots of good cuts on this release. The highlights are Ladder in my Tights, Misfit and Superior Mind. The other cuts are certainly worth a listen as well. Check it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Amy reveals true 'smiles' for us listeners!!!, October 1, 2003
This review is from: False Smiles (Audio CD)
Amy Studt! Just a 17 year old girl. One amazing voice still growing and maturing. And a talent to grow and succed, thats your Amy Studt! Tracks vary from a familar feel to your Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch and kinda Punky/pop rock girl with an edge. YET- she surprises you with some intresting balads that can be clearly easily used in a TV show our smash movie. Her first release MISFIT was a kind of edgy pop song that had a stable tune to keep you singing with her. However, the ballads on the album, tracks 4 and 9 are nicely done. A great effort, and keep the tunes flowing Amy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can you play a CD too much?, September 13, 2003
By A Customer

I first heard Amy on a preview to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I fell in love with the song "just a little girl". I spent many long hours trying to find out who sang the song. After someone on the net told me who it was I raced here to buy her album. When I saw it was only a single I was anxious for her to put out an album. Now that it's here I'm blown away. She's fabulous! I've listened to the cd so much that I know all the songs by heart now. Now I'm ready for her next album. I think just about anyone would enjoy her voice and song choices. She's a true talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars False Smiles by Amy Studt, July 14, 2005
This review is from: False Smiles (Audio CD)
I first heard of Amy Study two years ago. I was at a concert that was playing music videos before the concert started. They played two of Amy's videos in a row("Just a Little Girl" and "Misfit"). I instantly was a fan and wanted to get her cd as soon as possible. I looked her up on amazon and it said her cd was an import. I looked for her cd at every local store that sold cds. Then about a year ago I took a vacation to San Diego and found her cd at Tower Records. It was kinda expensive since it was an import but I wanted it so bad that I spent more than I usually would on a cd. False Smiles is a perfect combination of pop and rock music. Amy has a wonderful voice. Her lyrics are emotional and heartfelt. My favorite songs on the cd are "Just a Little Girl", "Happy Now", and "Seconds Away". Brit pop is awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, April 1, 2004

I have been waiting forever since I first heard "Little Girl" for this album to come out and it was so worth it. Here is someone with real talent, she writes and sings with emotion. And the funny thing is that for how I much I liked Little Girl, now that I have listened to the whole cd it is not my favorite, there are many more songs that I love more. My favorite has to be "Happy Now" and when her voice breaks, you feel the heartache. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. You have to admit, Simon Fuller know his stuff.
