5.0 out of 5 stars
Que Linda Bayamo, November 8, 2007
This review is from: Familia Valera Miranda (Audio CD)
I had to buy this CD because as you will see I am afraid not to have this music
It's easy to forget the constant fog-infused
cloud cover, the lovely blue blotted out
When fluorescent-tinged palm fronds
Sway in the phosphorous night breeze
imagining there a zillion stars twinkling
As cars zoom by on the freeway home
I am dripping, streaked red with toxic sweat
strenuous undulations of samba class
flooding my body with peaceful relaxation
I play the same song everyday to and from
And everywhere I go it lifts my spirits
I imagine I am driving lone dirt roads
The street lamps and headlights
Illuminating shifting shadows in the dark
On my glorious island paradise of Cuba
Where I live when I drive around listening
to a sweltering polyrhythmic music playing
a song I am continuously incessantly rewinding
I am afraid I will burn a hole in this cassette
copied from a tape purchased in Santiago de Cuba
which I never really listened to before
now obsessed with this singular song
sung by La Familia Varela Miranda
Que Linda Bayamo
They are singing about beauty is all I know
the ecstasy they bring to my travels do they know
the passionate intensity and musical artistry
winding its way to my bustling metropolis
slowing the frenetic hustling place
their sultry lullaby caressing my caged soul
fueling midnight dreams of a city that sings
dancing flagrantly to a fragrant harmony
drumbeats echoing in the distant memory
a time and place of aromatic grace
and lilting sumptuous sinuous pace
