Kindergarten-Grade 2-Mallory introduces the watery worlds of 14 different ocean dwellers and describes how they are born, grow, and learn to survive. He asks readers to imagine how it must feel to have the tail and fins of a fish, the waterproof fur of a sea otter, the leathery shell of a turtle, etc. Full-color illustrations on double-page spreads pair close-up and distant perspectives of each animal. Facts about size, habitat, physical characteristics, and behavior are worked into the brief narrative. The information presented is very basic, and the undistinguished artwork will not put this into the category of "must have." I looked at this book before I mailed it to my nephew. It was full of bright beautiful drawn artwork. This is not a photo book. Each double page was a different sea creature, with a writing of information. It was just breif enough to give plenty of useful knowledge, and not be to wordy. I understand he gave the book considerable review on Christmas day, before telling how he would bring it with him to the Caribbean this summer. I bought it used for $ .50, and that was worth it. It is not a hardback, and is only about 12 double pages of sea creatures.
