I use this book in the Families and Poverty class I teach at a University and students seem to really like it. Some who don't typically read their textbooks much actually reported being surprised by how much they enjoyed it. One of its strengths is that factual and conceptual information is illustrated with real-life examples. The stories of people's lives Seccombe weaves into the text really grab students' attention and give them something concrete to hold on to.

The other review of this book seems to be regarding the vendor rather than the actual text.

The Families in Poverty textbook is a beneficial resource for researched based information. This text is an easy read and has an ample amount of interesting facts and personal stories. Real-life stories and simple definitions of poverty terms are provided in this text making it an enjoyable and frustration-free. There is lots of knowledge and insight that will help one broaden their understanding and insight about poverty.
