4.0 out of 5 stars A clear picture of real families
This book gave me some answers I was looking for in the adoption process. It opened my eyes on some issues I had questions about. The families selected were very diverse, I was disapointed that it did not include a gay male couple, only lesbians and single gay men. 86% of the families profiled were lesbian parents.

3.0 out of 5 stars Families of Value a fair value
A somewhat informative book. Answered some questions I had, like what do the kids call you? I was disappointed that there was not more information told from the kids' perspective. Mostly parents. Also, was almost exclusively a book told from a lesbian point of view. Some, but relatively few comments from gay male parents. Many of the themes told from the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Families of Value a fair value, March 23, 2000

A somewhat informative book. Answered some questions I had, like what do the kids call you? I was disappointed that there was not more information told from the kids' perspective. Mostly parents. Also, was almost exclusively a book told from a lesbian point of view. Some, but relatively few comments from gay male parents. Many of the themes told from the perspective of lesbian parents can be generalized to include men as parents, but nevertheless, the gay male parenting experience is a unique one and is not well represented here. An average book covering a topic on which little substantive, quality information is available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reading!, March 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Families Of Value (Hardcover)
Wow...Finally a book about our families that's whole, upbeat, and accessible. Families of Value should be required reading for anyone who ever questioned lesbians' and gays' right to be parents. Or anyone who supports lesbigay families for that matter. The words of the children speak volumes!!! I couldn't put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Down to Earth, honest, no hype/glitz, just real parenting, June 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Families Of Value (Hardcover)
If you want to know how much these families are like the main stream, read this book. If you are looking for media-type, right-wing hype that proves how "out there" gays and lesbian parents really are-DON'T READ THIS ONE. It's humanism will change the open heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gay or not, it's invaluable for parents on child-rearing, March 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Families Of Value (Hardcover)
This is a remarkably candid and honest book on the ups and downs of gays and lesbians raising children. Whether the parent is gay or not is essentially unimportant, it is the commitment to caring and providing the best home possible that is the author's extraordinary message.

5.0 out of 5 stars Families of Value or Lesbian and Gay Families Speak Out, September 22, 2005

This review is from: Families Of Value (Hardcover)
"Lesbian and Gay Families Speak Out", also known as "Families of Value", is a fascinating introduction to families of same sex parents and the children thay are raising all over the United States. Drucker really shows that these people are living with the same concerns, joys, and love that all American families go through. Everyone who is interested in human nature should read this book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't trust this book - or the author, April 10, 2006
This review is from: Families Of Value (Hardcover)
PhD my fanny... I've known a few people who had "graduated" from Summit University and wouldn't trust any of them. It's an unaccredited "school" where you get to prescribe your own course of study and even name your own degree. Pay enough money and you too can be a PhD - after all, it sells better to publishers whether it's accurate or not.

Take this book (or any by this author )with several grains of salt.
