This review is from: A Family Affair: India Under Three Prime Ministers (Hardcover)
Ved Mehta is one of those almost forgotten Great Writers we have. This book is a companion to A Portrait of India, but is a gem in it's own. It gives great insight into India, maybe because the writer is Indian and became American later.Check out his autobiographical series as well - they're even better. If you are not interested in India, you can read his books just for the pure joy of reading beautiful, elegant English. Mehta was a staff writer for the New Yorker for quite a while, but somehow he never got as famous as some other New Yorker writers. An undeserved fate. |
