I don't understand why this short story was released as a hard cover book. I was looking forward to reading a substantial Macomber novel, not a short story with very little plot and no character development. I have been a big fan of Debbie Macomber's books; however, if this had been the first book of hers that I read, it would have also been the last. As another reviewer stated, don't waste your money.

I was so disappointed in this $9.99 overpriced "Novella". I read it in an hour. So not what I expected it to be. I expected a new story from Debbie Macomber and got tricked into a short story that was originally published in 1994 and I paid way too much money for it.

This was my first purchase for the Kindle I got for Christmas. What a letdown! This is a very short story and absolutely overpriced. I expected so much more based on all the other Debbie Macomber books I have read. I couldn't believe it when I came to the end! Then I read the previous reviews. I definitely learned a lesson here, the hard way.

Seems a bit underhanded to list this as a "new book" by Debbie Macomber when it is actually a very old short story dressed up as a new hardcover edition. I have read and enjoyed many of Macomber's books, particularly the Blossom Street series, but this is the end of the line for this reader. I feel her faithful readers were deceived with this "new" book and overcharged, too. Don't waste your money on this 98 page short story with 2 pages of cat food recipes! If I could have given it zero stars, I would have.

Debbie Macomber's new book, "Family Affair" is an enjoyable, lighthearted, quick read. Here we have "Lacey Lancaster," the main character, recovering from a broken heart caused by an unfaithful husband. And, her exasperating neighbor," Jack Walker," who helps her face all the difficult emotions she had denied herself after the divorce. Over time, and with his help, Lacey regains her confidence and finds love again. Co-starring "Cleo," Lacey's Abyssinian cat; and, Jack's cat named "Dog" -- it's a heart-warming, solid, and well-written light read.

But...... (Don't you hate it when there's a "but"?)

Looking on the copyright page, I couldn't help but notice that this "book" was previously published as a contribution to another book published in 1994 titled "Purrfect Love." Well, isn't that interesting? A quick search reveals that the previously published book not only had "Family Affair," but also offers short pieces by Linda Lael Miller and Patricia Simpson. All three of the stories that make up that book being "enchanting romances in which matchmaking felines play a key role."

Hmmmm, here we have a New York Times #1 best-selling author taking a third of a book she published with two other authors, repackaging it and now selling her third for $16.99. I'm a writer too, and I couldn't help but place myself in the shoes of her coauthors. I'd bet twenty-bucks to your cat litter that her two co-authors aren't real happy to see this story pulled and published separately instead of having their coauthored book reissued. Now, I'm not purrfect myself, and I'm not looking to start a catfight here, but as much as I enjoy reading Macomber's books, this is a mighty short book for $16.99 plus tax.

So, if you want to preface your catnaps with a good short story - this is a good one, just be sure to buy it used as $17 bucks for a good short story could instead buy a lot of cat food!

Better still, buy "Purrfect Love" and help her coauthors make a buck or two!

This was a nice little short story / but a total disappointment if you expect a Debbie Macomber novel. I can't beleive I paid $9.99 for this. I always buy any new book of hers. This experience ends that habit for me!

I was really looking forward to a "new" book from Debbie Macomber. But after paying 12.79 I was so disappointed to see it was short and had no really good story lines. I kept thinking I missed something. I enjoy all her other books but NOT this one. I agree with another review go to your local library.

I feel like I've been ripped off for the $10 I paid for this "book." It was horribly written, with one dimensional, unbelievable characters. It should be categorized under (very) Young Adult Fiction, because that could be the only group that might be interested in reading this. I didn't think there was anything out there worse than Danielle Steele novels, but I've definitely found it.

This is a nice little story by Macomber. But that is exactly what it is - a story and a short one at that.

"Family Affair" was first published in 1994 and included in a paperback called "Purrfect Love" that included stories from two other authors.

I do not know why it was decided to reissue this as a stand-alone hardback book of 102 pages. Unless you are a VERY hardcore Macomber fan and own every book she has published, I would check this out at the local library.

Don't get me wrong - Macomber is one of my favorite authors but the price being charged for this story, either in hardback or on Kindle, is not worth the substance.

NOTE: I received this book through Amazon's VINE program.

I'm as disappointed as the other reviewers with the length and the price of this book. I hope not to be fooled again.
