5.0 out of 5 stars The Best!
The Family Chef is my perfect cookbook! Thank you Jewels and Jill. Delicious, healthy, beautiful recipes that my family and friends can't resist. I made a feast for 12 people almost entirely from The Family Chef and a week later everyone is still raving about the food! I gave both of my daughters-in-law copies of The Family Chef and have now ordered a few extra books to...

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't get it
I'm glad I got this book from the library first - I suggest you do the same. I paged through this cookbook two different times and the only recipes that caught my eye were for salad dressings. I have other healthy cookbooks and this one offered nothing noteworthy to me. I was surprised to find such basic recipes as mashed yams and quesadillas. Maybe it would be helpful...

5.0 out of 5 stars My Children Now Love Kale and Cabbage!!! (Oakton, VA), September 1, 2009
This review is from: The Family Chef: Make Your Kitchen the Heart of Your Family (Hardcover)
Last evening, I prepared the Cavolo Nero and Red Cabbage Tostadas with Spicy Shrimp and Cumin-Scented Vinaigrette for my husband and two sons (ages 10 and 7). I used the recipe in the Sept issue of "O Magazine" which features a great article on Jewels and Jill Elmore. My family was skeptical when they saw me using ingredients that they don't usually rave about (kale, red cabbage, black beans). They loved it!!! Even my 7 year old (who is a skinny chicken tender/pizza kid) could not stop eating these healthy, flavorful Tostadas. Of course, I am now ordering the "Family Chef" Cookbook. Thanks so much Jewells and Jill for helping my children (and my husband for that matter) to enjoy kale and cabbage!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good even if you are a cook!, February 18, 2010

I come from a long line of Italian cooks-and I am a good cook, even have the fluffy hubby to prove it. ;) Yes, the recipes are simple-but they taste good and get you thinking outside of the box. This isn't just for people who don't cook much. I think a lot of people can benefit from learning new ways to spice classic foods. It would have been better in cookbook form, but that's okay. I love the simple dressing recipes and especially the favorite soup recipe. Of course I have changed the recipes up a bit, as a real cook would do. Especially a cook in a small town where lentils aren't easily found. Use these as a springboard for a healthy lifestyle and adapt them to your family. I am always looking for healthy with a twist, and I am using this book, so it was money well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible edibles, June 23, 2009
This review is from: The Family Chef: Make Your Kitchen the Heart of Your Family (Hardcover)
Very happy to have made this purchase. The recipes, though simple, turn out complex and flavorful dishes. They delight all of our guests, and the family. Thank you Jewels and Jill, for bringing the "celebrity's kitchen" into our homes.......Wolfgang who??????????????????

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, only one thing missing........., February 14, 2010

I was so excited to recieve this cookbook. The book is great . Lots of beautiful pics that will make your mouth water! My only disappointment was that there is no serving sizes or calorie content for any of the dishes. I have recently been working hard on losing weight and trying to get my family to eat HEALTHY. Though this does fit the bill for healthy eating, I am alittle nervous to make the dishes without knowing the calorie or fat content. I sent a email to them in request to information in regards to this, a few weeks ago, and still have not recieved a reply back. That disappointed me too. So, if you just want a good cookbook for healthy eating, this one works. But if you are concened with going over a certain calorie goal, you will not find that kind of information in this book. Hope this helps.

The one plus - there are plenty of nice pictures.

I didn't realize that a cookbook could actually be FUN to read ! The pictures are beauiful but don't make the recipes seem intimidating. Like the Chefs themselves, the dishes seem quite approachable...and interesting but not overly-complicated. LOVE the SOUPS! i'm a HUGE fan of soup but with Summer approaching I now have a few COLD SOUP options, which I'm stoked about. interestingly, the mushroom quesadillas go well with just about ALL of them. looking forward to trying out other recipes that will get me outside on the grill this Summer !

Thank you Elmore girls for producing this terrific cook book. Every recipe I have made is simply delicious with clean yummy flavor. Tonight, i made Jewel's favorite soup and papa's chicken... simply delicious! I consider myself to be a great cook and real estate in my kitchen is coveted, but The Family Chef cookbook will remain on the shelf (Ina's cookbooks will have to more over a bit for Jeweles and Jill!)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Family Chef by Jewels & Jill Elmore, May 7, 2009
This review is from: The Family Chef: Make Your Kitchen the Heart of Your Family (Hardcover)
This is a cook book that is actually fun to read. It is beautifully presented, but also entertains by being very anecdotal - one amusing thread throughout the book being the different approach that each of the "sister chefs" takes to the same dish. The delicious, uncomplicated dishes are from a number of different cultures and the superb photography makes them so inviting you will salivate.

This cookbook was brought to my attention in a magazine, and I was interested on what more the cookbook had to offer. I bought it, and HAVE NOT PUT IT DOWN!!!! My family loves this cookbook. I use it all of the time and hope that Jewels and Jill write another cookbook soon. I have never reviewed any cookbook and this one is worth every penny! Please don't hesitate!!!! Love it!!!
