About the Author

Genevieve Ross has embarked on many adventures; some etched in reality, others—a figment of her imagination. She has had numerous short stories published at various websites, hosted a talk-radio show, and narrates audio-books. For five years she lived on the tropical Island of Roatan, Honduras; the Roatan Vortex had pulled her in! Were she shared insight on overcoming the challenges associated with everything you own going rusty or being carried off by ants. I don't know of anyone that doesn't have some dysfunction in their family, and the family in this book is certainly no exception. I found the book very easy to read, the story heartbreaking at times, yes there are a couple of places I shed a tear or two, but the subtlety of the lessons woven throughout the words, and hidden between the lines, is what I found compelling. This is not the book you want to read if you are looking for something lighthearted. However, I found it well written and one that tells a tale of a family challenged, but finds strength and compassion in their choice of family. The ending leaves one wanting for more, so I'm in hopes of a sequel some day.

Two days after reading this book Im still mad at the author for leaving the heroine (a child) where she did at the end of this book. This book has surprises with an imbalance of writing style that is a little disconcerting. Parts of it drag and yet parts of it are so well written and so realistic you can not only empathize but laugh out loud ( and I havent laughed out loud at a book for a long time). It is the ending as it unfolds very rapidly, in comparison with the rest of the story, that is so disconcerting. Is it the real world ,as the author has suggested, or is it a revelation of her own deep and permenant pain?

The author writes a good book that is very descriptive, and does get you into the characters easily. There are some sections of the book that move a bit to quickly for my taste, and yet others are are wonderfully done and ease along at an appropriate pace.
I don't normally like to read about personal problems and hardships, but this book is a good one for those who do prefer to do so.
My only pet peeve is when she leaves the main character hanging almost mid sentence at the end of the book. There is obviously a sequel to the book, but the unforeseen abrupt ending left me a bit upset.
