5.0 out of 5 stars Not your typical parenting book! Practical advice you can immediately apply!, September 13, 2009
This review is from: The Family Coach Method: Raising Good, Kind, Ethical Kids 3 to 8 (in a Complicated World) (Paperback)
As a mother of 3, I've read many parenting books over the years. Lynne Kenney's book stands out above the rest! I've been able to immediately apply her practical advice and am already seeing results with my children. The activities at the end of each chapter gave me an opportunity to practice the methods and engage my kids in the process. It's so good you'll be buying copies for your friends!

Dr. Kenney has written an excellent parenting book with practical and useful tips that are easy to implement right away. The book is packed with the whys and hows of raising thoughtful, responsible and conscientious children. The activities are fun for families and the parenting examples relate to real-life situations with easy-to-follow solutions. Dr. Kenney's tone is very charming, witty and sincere, making the book a pleasure to read. I highly recommend this to book to parents of children 3-8. Even the most well-read of parents will find useful information and practical tips.

This review is from: The Family Coach Method: Raising Good, Kind, Ethical Kids 3 to 8 (in a Complicated World) (Paperback)
Dr. Lynne Kenney's ability to communicate complicated information in a grounded accessible manner takes the chaos out of parenting. I have gained much knowledge watching Dr. Lynne on ABC's Smart Family and following her on Twitter. I love how The Family Coach Method discusses Living with Rhythm, Routines, and Rituals, and Setting Boundaries and Limits. Great information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent suggestions for handling family dynamics, April 9, 2011

This review is from: The Family Coach Method: Raising Good, Kind, Ethical Kids 3 to 8 (in a Complicated World) (Paperback)
This is really an excellent book to help you reevaluate your parenting style and family dynamics. Though easy to read and full of hints and tips you can apply right away, it quietly transforms your outlook on handling complex dynamics in families with children in the 3 to 8 year-old range. After reading just the first chapter, I found I was able to start a very interesting conversation at the dinner table about family values. Our three and five year olds quickly got the concept and talked about the things our family stands for, like being kind and caring with each other and doing healthy things. It was so different from the usual "don't do this and don't do that" dialogue. Now I find myself trying to use that discussion when things get out of hand. For example, when they are fighting, I bring up the concept that in our family we are kind and caring with each other and it makes a point with them (each in an age-appropriate way). This was just the first tool I picked up from this book. I am a fast reader and gobbled it up but I will go back to it many times to help me rethink my toolbox when encountering more difficult situations. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical advice and excellent reference tool!, November 29, 2009
This review is from: The Family Coach Method: Raising Good, Kind, Ethical Kids 3 to 8 (in a Complicated World) (Paperback)
Dr. Kenney's practical advice really delivers results. Many of the tips she provides in the book address common ongoing problems (like the constant need to interrupt a parent on the telephone) with easily workable solutions. I have also found the book to be an excellent reference tool to give guidance as needs arise. For example, we have been working on listening and "respect" in our home with our 8 year old daughter. I went back to Dr. Kenney's book, re-read the chapter on "Respect", and used some of the insightful techniques therein to guide me in parenting my daughter. The results have been wonderful. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Raise great kids and become a better person, October 23, 2009
This review is from: The Family Coach Method: Raising Good, Kind, Ethical Kids 3 to 8 (in a Complicated World) (Paperback)
Dr. Kenney has delivered an incredible resource for parents struggling to raise well-rounded children in our busy, chaotic world. Her approach is engaging, practical and simple as she expertly guides you through The Family Coach Method she's used with families for years. The first three chapters alone make this book a worthy investment as she describes how to develop your family's unique culture, establish family rules that support rather than constrain, and develop a family flow that keeps members organized and inspired. The most surprising outcome of this book wasn't how well my family improved (that I trusted to happen!), but how I improved as a person. This book grows your family and YOU. Thank you Lynne for writing such an important piece at this time in our lives.
