What makes this a book a "must-have" for any child, are the incredible illustrations. Regardless of your age, you find yourself trying to count all of the objects on every page. This book is so much fun and I cant wait to see more books illustrated by Danamarie Hosler !

glowing,
By happy mom (portland, me United States) - See all my reviews

In a world where most trips to the bookstore end up with me leaving empty handed, its so great to finally find a book that i am comfortable sharing with my child. I am a heterosexual living the "accepted" life in a heterosexual marriage, and to me, it would be an utter crime to NOT share with my son and daughter ALL of the love on God's earth. Regardless of your religious or moral pursuasions, it is most important that our children understand love, and I am so pleased with this purchase...my children are too, and i know they will be better adults for it. Hopefully, if enough of us raise our children to respect one another we can make a difference. 123 is well written and the illustrations are brilliant. A+!

A Must Have in Your Child's Collection!,
By Webmaster, OurWorldToo.com (St. Louis, MO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 123 A Family Counting Book (Paperback)
This book is quite groundbreaking, and is excellent in the way it portrays our differences as not-so-different to children. Very thoughtful, well-written, and beautifully illustrated - a must have in any child's collection! 123 A Family Counting Book, and many more like it, cater to gay parents and their children.

This is a great book for small children. We have a 2 year old and she really likes this book. We had a couple of friends over who have a 3 year old and she really loved the books as well. We have the number book as well.

Let's count all the wonderful kinds of families there are.,
This review is from: 123 A Family Counting Book (Paperback)
123 A Family Counting BookThis appears to be a straightforward counting book, with one sentence for each number accompanied by wonderful artwork showing happy families in various settings. Yet although not discussed in the text, the pictures depict all types of diverse families, including transracial and two-dad families. A great book for showing diverse families celebrating family life just like all families, and for introducing what may be a sensitive concept to children as a subtext rather than by overt discussion.

Excellent book,
This review is from: 123 A Family Counting Book (Paperback)
This is an excellent book! It is wonderful to see both racial diversity and homosexuality explored in the same book - a rare thing indeed. It is important for children to see all people and see that families come in all forms and for children to learn to respect and appreciate this diverse world they will live in. Buy the book, your children will be richer for it!! I was atonished, as were others, to see the review posted by the woman who was upset by the content of the book. Clearly, she has taught her child to hate - as her child's comments suggested - and I'm not sure why she bought the book, also no parent "owns children" as she suggested. Anyhow, a great book all around and a wonderful opportunity to provide your child with a window into a world that may not (or may be) the same as his/her own.

Response to the homophobic reader,
By L.Hoang (Brooklyn) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 123 A Family Counting Book (Paperback)
To the negative 1-star response, I find you to be hypocritical. You claim to want to show your child the diversity in the world, yet you continue to propagate hateful homophobia. Diversity doesn't bow down to your whims and fancies, it's a way/fact of life and whether or not you agree, you have to learn to accept it. A true parent would have explained to their child, that although a homosexual lifestyle may not fit into the family's belief system, there is no excuse to treat gays differently. Wasn't that your point to begin with????I pity your child to have such a close-minded parent and I scoff at your silliness in burying a children's book.

I'm Speechless,
By A Customer
This review is from: 123 A Family Counting Book (Paperback)
Thank you to the previous reviewer for your comments, specifically that the artwork is beautiful. My daughter is the illustrator of this book, and I know that she was able to create these pictures from her heart because my husband and I taught our children to embrace life and all persons in this world regardless of race, color, creed and sexual orientation. We are all God's children and when this world can become devoid of hate...the children of tomorrow can have a brighter future. I feel sorry for children who are taught to hate, because children, unfortunately, are a product of their environment.

I don't find it at all hard to believe that the child of a obnoxious bigot would say such things. I'm sure this hateful attitude has been ingrained since birth. Poor child! We try to highlight love and diversity in our home. My daughter absolutely adores this book. The artwork is lovely. All children should have their lives enriched by books like this.
