Excellent Slice Of Life!!,
This review is from: The Family Curse (Paperback)
I have to admit, that I began reading The Family Curse with a great deal of trepidation, after all I was reading story all a women who puts a curse on a man. What I found was a very well written story of a family. It was dramatic and intense at points. At points it made me laugh until I cried. But just when I thought it was a nice quiet story, it turns highly erotic and very sexual. And then came the curse. I sat riveted to every word, afraid to continue and at the same time driven to finish this extremely well written story. The Family Curse is a must read.

The Family Curse is a bewitching tale of deception and jealousy. Magdalene Breaux's tale will leave readers in awe as they discover the desperate measures these women take to captivate their men. When Freida cast a spell of unyielding love on her sister's boyfriend, she receive more than she bargained for. A curse that would reach far beyond the seed of her loins plagues her entire generation.I found the book spell bounding from its emotionally charged beginning to its climatic ending that left me gasping for more. It is an absolute MUST READ. Get ready to be spun off your feet with a merry-go-round of twists and turns that will leave your head spinning behind every page. Magdalene, I give you two enthusiastic thumbs up and I can't wait for the next ride. Keep up the good work.

an emotionally, intriguing ,erotic read,
This review is from: The Family Curse (Paperback)
OOh, Awsome is the first thing I have to say about The Family Curse. This was a very different but intriguing read for me . I was spellbound reading it. It is a fastpace moving story than will not let you put it down. It was even spooky to me at times. Especially reading it in the wee hours of the morning. You see this book had me reading morning , noon , and night. This one will be hard to put down( if you can ) only to pick it back up. Yes it is an emotionally charged story with deception, suspense and yes passion. Ms Breaux , you are a very good story teller. I pray this is only a work of fiction with no truth to it .Please . I can remember visiting some of those places and they have new meanings to me now. This is an awsome story that should be read. While I did not really want to give it 5* I felt I had to. It was short a few points only because I was confused with who was doing the main speaking. I am assumming it was Mother Ruby . I wished it was stated at the begining who the voice was in bold lettering. Other than that the begin could have been the ending for me . I had to read the begining to make an ending( closure ) for me. All in this is a 4.5* read. a MR if you dare. whew

this book kept me up , to the wee hours of the morning. i read it in 2 days. i couldnt put it down.this book takes place in a town thats filled with evil. and a family that has been though pure hell and back. i enjoy this book i guess because it effected me personally in so many ways. lets start with freda, you could tell that she hadnt been exposed to the finer things in life. with her lack of education, there was a lot that she just couldnt comprehend. but the didnt keep her from stealing her sisters man. she thought because of her fair skin that , she could have any man that she wanted. and ms. mable was just someone that you couldnt hate. she loved everybody that she came into contact with. ms. breaux has done a wondreful job with her first novel. i give this book a definite 5* and then some!!!!!!!

The underside of New Orleans,
By The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Family Curse (Paperback)
The Family Curse sets an eerie scenario from the opening chapter, you start with the feeling that someone needs protection from an unknown power. This story is set in New Orleans, which is a perfect backdrop for a battle of good versus evil. Freda's fair skin and blue eyes afforded her many privileges in her hometown of Morgan City, Louisiana. She steals her sister's boyfriend and leaves home to never return. Ms Breaux did a superb job of presenting the life of Freda and Raymond Marshall, from their initial meeting, Ray is mesmerized by the fair complexion and the beauty of Freda. While Margaret is trying to get to Ray's heart through his stomach, Freda takes a more southern route. And with a little help, six months later, Ray and Freda are married and her sister moves to New York City. The sisters meet again some 20 years later when they return to New Orleans for a visit. Both of her sisters are very successful, but Freda has yet to learn how to read, and the beauty she once possessed has faded. Ray is still with her, he has developed a roving eye, but he will not leave or, he cannot leave. There was a curse following Ray and Freda and they didn't know how to break it. Their union produced three sons and one daughter Delores, who could not find a peaceful existence and could not find love, but there was a reason for that. This story had so many twists and turns, and just when you think you have it figured out, something else happens and you realize you don't. You are introduced to spirits, incantations, conjures and witch craft with a good sprinkling of the erotic. Though the ending was not climatic it cleared all issues and you were genuinely surprised. Ms Breaux has the makings of a wonderful story teller, she dangled enough loose ends to keep you intrigued, and then tied them in a very neat package. This was a very different, but very delightful read, about the underside of New Orleans. Reviewed by aNN

Get ready to follow three generations of Marshalls. Set in Lousiana, the family goes through trials and tribulations. The family is cursed. They take a step up, only to fall two steps back. Freda the matriach of the family. She was beautiful and fair skinned, and felt she could get by on looks along and get any man she wanted. Well after a visit to the man, she got what she want, but she will have to pay the price. Or does she? Will others pay it for her? One of my favorite characters was Mother Ruby. Her stories and words of wisdom were something to behold. She exhibited strength and determination and set an example to all.The author wrote a spellbinding tale of life in New Orleans through the 40's - 70's of the Marshall family. The surprise ending really threw me, but I understand it's setting up the sequel. This is a book I highly recommend.

Ms. Breaux's first book starts off with a bang. Her creativity has no limits. I finished this book in two days. While standing in my kitchen cooking, New Orleans just over took me. Certainly not a dull moment. Definitely a good read, full of drama and entertainment. Makes you wonder if there are really curses among us!

The Family Curse,

It was a fascinating blend of folk witchcraft, mysticism, and 1930's southern black culture in a sleepy New Orlean's setting. It was hard to put down, with twists, turns, and highly erotic highlights. It always kept me off balance. I definitely recommend it.

If you like Toni Morrison (Beloved) or Gloria Naylor (Bailey's Cafe), you're gonna like this author's style of writing because she falls right in Morrison and Naylor's category. I personally like to read books that I can understand.
