This is a good tool to add to a training class or book., March 22, 1999

This review is from: Family Dog [vhs] (VHS Tape)
This video is up to date in the techniques shown, and realistic. What the viewer sees is a healthy approach to choosing a puppy, and dealing with a young puppy in the family home. One important example I would highlight is the recommendation of using a crate in the house for safe control, and potty training. The underlying strength, I think, is that the information presented addresses the fact that a puppy's brain is mature enough to learn when it is first brought into the home at seven to eight weeks. The pup can be taught limits right away, and even more importantly, one can guide and shape the pup's every day behaviors and positively reinforce at every step. I consider it a valuable tool to see behavior shaping and reinforcement in real time on a video, and be shown that training involve all members of the family learning and participating in the training process in a coordinated way.
