Every family has secrets. When it's one of the most powerful families in history, secrets can have catastrophic consequences for the entire world.

For hundreds of years they were the weapons of kings.

Now they work for themselves on the world's behalf.

But who is going to save them when a forgotten enemy returns?

No other organization has had a greater impact on history through the lives they've saved and the lives they've taken. They are an extraordinary family whose quiet interventions in the world's affairs have had important ramifications for centuries.

But every family has its drama...

Claire DuMont has been estranged from the family for the last five years, surviving on her own as an independent contractor. On Tuesday, she arrives in Dallas on an assignment for a detestable mob boss. During her one night in town, she unexpectedly falls in love with an ordinary man who is willing to do something very surprising to catch her attention.

That same day, her brother Julian pilots a dilapidated boat into Galveston harbor. As he attempts to carry out his own mission at a seedy waterfront bar that is being monitored by law enforcement and a South American drug cartel, he meets a beautiful waitress who is not what she seems.

Meanwhile, their cousin Tait is attempting to finally become a family agent by hunting down a well-protected criminal. When his first real mission nearly ends in disaster, it's up to the heads of the American family to decide his fate before Tait's father, the head of the European family, arrives and causes havoc.

The events of this day will begin an explosive chain reaction that will put in jeopardy the fate of fifteen-year-old Abbey, the DuMonts' greatest hope for the future, who is about to begin her own harrowing journey that will lead her to the startling truth about the family.

3.0 out of 5 stars Family Feud on steroids February 25, 2014
By Jeanine
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is based on the premise of a family with a secret -- for centuries they have worked as assassins who kill to make the world a better place. The pitfalls in that idea are huge but not explored in this book. Instead we get family alphas beating their chests and the younger set struggling with various insecurities.

Parts of this book were enjoyable as the characters pulled off their exploits. Parts were ethically challenging to say the least although one could hope those questions would be addressed in more depth in a sequel.

And there's at least one very unintentionally funny line when it's stated that a brother and sister are twins, but not identical.

All in all, somewhat diverting but not great.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Family Dumont Review February 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well geez... where's the rest of it? Apart from the fact there is no hint of when or where the next book might or might not appear, this is an outstanding read. It's a bit confusing with switches back and forth among the characters and sub plots but the braiding of various strands is skillfully done. This is a wow book and the next, should it appear, will most likely be a five star. I only give those to books that will be read again and again, the true test of literature in my opinion. Enjoy... it's that good.

This book did not make you wait to get completely submerged in the story. It is like you have a birds-eye view of the entire thing as the action twist and turns. One of the few books that I did not want to end. I look forward to reading the next book in what I see as a great series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Complex yet Captivating October 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The large cast of characters and simultaneous plot lines is, at times, difficult to follow. Yet, both undoubtedly add to appeal of the book as the story is multifaceted and keeps the reader entertained. There is a feeling that the authors are setting a broad stage to prepare the reader for something bigger than expected. I believe we've hardly scratched the surface of what is sure to be a dense and fascinating story. I found myself engaged within the first chapter, finished within the day and already looking forward to the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing July 29, 2014
By Tom
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found "The Family DuMont" intriguing. Though there was a lot of jumping around at the beginning, I found that the characters were believable, the plot suspenseful enough to keep me reading and the internal struggles of the characters realistic. I read it in 2 days and found myself thinking about what was going to happen next when I did put it down! Anxious to keep reading this series. Very well done for your first book! This reader was satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, I couldn't put it down. May 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book kept me totally interested throughout the entire book - I have a habit of skipping over paragraphs, or sometimes whole pages, of descriptive words about scenery, emotions, history, etc., in books because I just want to get back to the story....but I read every word in this book. I've already started reading Book 2 of the this series and am looking forward to Book 3. Love the characters and their "missions."
