I bought this game for our family after playing it at my brother's house. It fast became one of my son's favorite games. He wanted to bring it whenever we went to visit someone. It's of course very portable (just a deck of cards), and very easy to learn (draw one, play one). What's best about it is you never know who's going to win. You can't get 'close' to winning, since the rules keep changing. It's a great game that never gets stale, and helps to teach strategy, too. It's a combination of poker and chess skills, in that you have to try to guess what your opponents have, based on what they play. You also have to think 2-3 plays ahead to try to control the game. Of course, you can also just play each card as it comes up, if you don't feel like thinking!

I really like this game. It involves strategy, but the awesome part is that the rules are changing constanty by playing cards such as "hand limit one" or "play three". You're ready to win on your next turn, but someone else ruins your plan, so you have to think of a new one. If you like playing games to win, you'll probably find it frustrating, but if you play games just for fun, you'd find it enjoyable. This is the kind of game that's more fun with the more people you play with. It's still okay playing with two but four or more is the best!Pros: colorful, understandable cards self explanitory (just takes a while to catch on) strategic but fun great group game. also ok with 2 people anyone can join in at the miiddle of the game (but you might have to explain it) Cons: sometimes frustrating can get really complicated when rules change! (sometimes you just have to wing it.) if you're just learning, it takes a while to get it. teaching someone how to play is really confusing

Has a basic set of rules that allows for a dynamic game since the players can change the details of the rules (e.g., number of cards you draw each turn). Got this for my kids (6 & 8) - great to watch them create a strategy.

Family Fluxx is an awesome game. I came to Amazon to find another card game that wasn't available at any of my local stores, and found Fluxx listed in the "recomendations area". I started reading about the game, and found it interesting. I would recommend, if you've never played Fluxx before, to start with this "Family Fluxx" version. It is a slightly simplified version of the full Fluxx game.Fluxx appears rather complicated, but once you start playing, you can pick up the rules, gameplay, and strategies within five minutes (although "strategies" is a loaded term with this game, as the rules change with every hand). My wife and I only played two hands before I was back on Amazon, and ordered the full Fluxx 4.0 game, and almost all of the expansion packs (see the Zombie Fluxx for a real laugh). Family Fluxx is listed as ages 8 and up, purely for comprehension of the rules. However, parents won't find this game offensive towards any younger spectators you might have in your living room. Yet, I can still see college kids playing this game in a dorm, having a blast. The part I find most amazing, is if you purchase the other versions of this game (Fluxx 4.0, Fluxx Zombies, Fluxx Monty Python, etc), they mix fluidly in with this game. I love this option, since my wife and I host large games nights with friends, and single deck games usually don't have enough cards to accommodate everyone. I can see the younger generation using this to replace the Bunco nights of our parents, or the Bingo nights of our grandparents. If you enjoy playing cards with your friends, and aren't too serious about keeping score, this game should work for just about anybody. Good luck!

I'm a big gaming enthusiast, and this game is perfect for impromptu coffee shop outings or situations where you don't have a lot of time to explain rules. It's silly, it's light-hearted, it's fun. When you have a mixed crowd where not everyone is a min-maxing strategist, this game is perfect; it's nature specifically PREVENTS long-term strategizing, and winning the game is so silly ("I got stickball! I win!") that it's easy to play over and over while talking about something else more interesting. If the game were a food, it would probably be a meringue or maybe cotton candy -- good fun, enjoyable, and not filling. [ If you are already a fan of the Fluxx series -- this additive is terrific for family play. Usage in other scenarios is POSSIBLE, but you'll end up with a few dead draws on the "Grandparent bonus" cards ]

This is a really fun game for the whole family. We have a 9 year old that like to play cards. I felt they could have given you more cards to play with for the money, but I didn't get any discount as I bought right before Christmas.

Family Fluxx is a great game to play with friends or family. This version is somewhat of a smaller deck, but it's great for first timers. After you get your feet wet with this one, you can move on to Fluxx 4.0 or Zombie FLuxx

Bought Fluxx for game night with my daughter's family. Played it with only my 12 yo granddaughter. It was fun but would be more fun with more players.

Saw a family playing FLUXX at breakfast while on vacation. They were having so much fun, I had to ask what game they were playing. Ordered it for our next monthly game night. The rules are tricky at first to understand, but once you've played a round or two, it all falls into place. One deck of cards, yet every game is different. It's fast moving, creates lots of laughter, good for all ages, and you can play multiple games in a night. |
