The Diagram Group ( Child's Body: A Parent's Manual , LJ 4/1/78) offers this compilation of more than 800 games from around the world suitable for children and adults. Instructions for each game include information on equipment and number of players, with illustrations where appropriate. The first half of the book is an alphabetical grouping of general games using darts, dice, words, and so forth. The last half, which is devoted to card games, is subdivided into general games, those appropriate for children, gambling card games, and solitaire. In addition to the general index at the end of the book, a very useful section entitled "Finding a Game" indexes games according to type, number of players, and alternative names. The attractive format includes amusing illustrations to supplement the clear instructions. This is sure to receive constant circulation. Highly recommended for all public libraries.

Great resource for fun,

My kids and I have kicked this book around so much is starting to look a little ragged. There's at least one lifetime of fun here. The instructions are excellent as are the illustrations. As the title suggests these are family or multi-player games - not much here for the solitaire type player. Really a nice and useful book.

This book covers the rules for many classic games, from Chess and Checkers to more exotic games like Halma, Go and Mancala. The section on card games is extensive. All in all, a great start to a game lovers library.
