It doesn't take too long before things pile up in this Parents' Choice Gold Award winner. Two players take turns slipping light or dark wooden polygons into a clear, upright game board. The object is to force the opponent to drop a piece that sticks out above the board--no fair trying to push a piece back down! But it isn't always easy to place the thin, lightweight tiles successfully in the frame. As the various squares, triangles, and odd-shaped playing pieces drop upon each other in the nearly 7-inch frame, they're prone to slipping into unexpected positions. It all adds to the surprising fun and challenge of the game. At the end of each round, the losing piece is removed from the losing player's set; the first person to forfeit a turn due to a lack of pieces loses the match. --Liane Thomas

Both visual and planning skills are put into play as irregular-shaped pieces are dropped into a slot. They may land upside, downside, or on their side. If a player's piece catches on another one and sticks out above the board's edge, that player loses the game. Fun for 2 players. I really enjoy this game because I can play it with my 4 year old son and still find it challenging. It plays very quickly (a few minutes for a single game), there is little setup required before a game or between games, and the rules are easy to learn and explain (very useful if your child doesn't yet read). I believe that the game does a good job of teaching a child to manipulate and visualize shapes. The game has a strong element of skill, but is also random enough that the adult will likely not win all (or most!!) of the games. There are only 18 wooden pieces and 1 sturdy playing surface to keep up with.

Our children's museum had the whole series of these games (quarto, quoridor, etc.) While some were addicting, (quoridor especially) this was fun at first, but we soon tired of it. There is strategy involved, it is simple to learn, but it just didn't hold our attention for long. In my opinion, this is a terrific series of games with one bomb.
