I am a sucker for a puzzle and have put together a collection of hundreds over the years. This is a puzzle that will be sure get the attention of anyone receiving it,especially when it is accompanied by a fine bottle of wine.It is well made and can be used over and over again. If you intend to give this to someone ,and you are not very familiar with puzzles,be warned there is a little effort involved in putting it on the bottle. However, don't be afraid,it comes with instructions of how to put it on ,as well as how to get it off.Part of the fun you will have is in telling the person you are giving it to,is to tell them you put it on,so they should be able to remove it.If you are so mechanical minded challenged, that a can opener is beyound your ability, almost anyone will get a kick out of helping you.I might also warn you to be careful how big a bottle you try to fit it on.On my first attempt ,I tried a bottle that was 13 inches tall.It was too tall and I couldn't get it on.Then I tried another which was 11 1/2 inches tall.I got it on ,but it could be slipped off without solving the puzzle. Therefore ,to work properly the bottle must be about 12 to 12 1/2 inches tall. The diameter of the bottle is also an issue and should be as near to 3 inches as possible.
After using,it can be left around, and when seen people will be curious and will want to give it a try.
Another warning might be ,that this sort of puzzle can be very difficult to solve, especially without instructions,so make sure they are with the puzzle when you get it.Although this particular puzzle will be a challenge,it is not all that hard, and if I were to rate it,I would rate it 1 or 2 out of 10;therefore given a little time, most people could solve it.The rest would probably get it if given the instructions.

I was quite excited when I received this puzzle as it was going to form the frustrating packaging for my sisters 40th Birthday Present - a good bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon.

The puzzle itself is of good quality and will certainly baffle family and friends and worthy of at least 3 stars overall, but if they can't assemble it correctly at the factory you will be unable to use the puzzle which is why I have rated the product I received as 1 star.

My particular version had the small wooden ball on the wrong side of the Wooden Bar piece, which means you simply can not put the locking piece into position on this puzzle which is the whole purpose of this product.

It meant 30 minutes of frustration trying to work out what I was doing wrong, until I went to you tube and saw a working version of this product and realized that the error lay with the manufacturer not me.

Fortunately I was able to pull the rope out of the locking BLOCK, reassemble it correctly and then re-glue & nail the piece correctly. This is not difficult for anyone with basic handyman skills but for any children or non-handy people this would render this puzzle completely useless.

Once fixed, the puzzle provides lots of fun.

I wasn't sure which one of these "Don't Break The Bottle" puzzles would be best. I decided on this one since the product looked durable and the rope was large. The large rope has less of a chance of getting tangled and the configuration of the puzzle is such that people can actually watch you try to solve it. The people I gave it too had a great time solving it, as did the guests they had over. They passed it around trying to solve it. I've always been into puzzles and I think this one is just the right amount of difficulty for what it is. You want people to be able to solve it, but not right away.

There were a couple of quality issues with the puzzle but were easily fixed. The beads on the rope would snag a bit. I took the edge of a scissor and ran it inside of the bead (without dissasembling the puzzle). This allowed the beads to slide without catching. Also, the wood piece that goes on top of the bottle had a crack in it at the end furthest from the bottle. I'm not sure if this happened after some use or was shipped that way. In either case, a little wood glue made that a non issue. Overall though, the puzzle looks quite nice and feels good in the hand while trying to solve.

In any case, I would buy this puzzle again...knowing that I might have to do a little prep work to make it operate smoothly. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 due to the quality issues.

This puzzle kept my brother-n-law busy for a long time Christmas morning. I kept the directions in my purse just-in-case (which we needed to break out in the end.) I think it's a great gift for a wine lover or a puzzle lover.

We saw this at a party so my husband had to get one for himself and another for a friend. The only problem we had was that one of the pieces was missing on one of them, but the company was great and very quick to help remedy the problem. We would recommend this item. It would be a great hostess gift.

I enjoy puzzles, and this one is deceptively hard. Even with the instructions, it proved difficult to dissemble.

I just got this as an while elephant gift exchange. I love it! The quality of the wood is good. All the surfaces were smooth including the balls. We're going to be using this for our guests. Who ever can open it gets the wine. Also thinking about buying a couple as gifts to other wine enthusiasts.
