Take responsibility for your own health with this book...,

This review is from: Family Guide to Homeopathy: Symptoms and Natural Solutions (Paperback)
This book, along with the Balch & Balch (Prescription for Nutritional Healing) are my two bibles. I have worked in the field of natural medicine for years now: managing a web site on natural medicine, as an energy healer, and as a lay homeopath, and find this book the one I look to whenever I feel a situation will respond well to homeopathic treatment. The book explains the concept of how homeopathy works, gives a history of its use, explains the various dosages, includes a section on constitutional remedies, covers a huge variety of symptoms, and presents snapshots of the properties of some of the more common remedies. This book is an invaluable reference for anyone who wishes to use non-invasive methods to deal with common health problems. I've had results with homeopathic remedies that were practically miraculous! They are safe, inexpensive, easy to use even for small children, and quickly effective. This book will educate you in the proper use of homeopathy for the layperson, and give you insight as to when to consult a homeopath for more in-depth matters. Don't hesitate to buy this book, it's a keeper!

Useful book for all interested in homeopathy, esp. novices,

A copy of this book was lent to me by a co-worker. Having never tried any type of alternative medicine before, I was very skeptic. However, since this co-worker had already given me such useful information on nutrition and diet; I figured that I would see if this would work as well. After looking up my various ailments and then going to a homeopathic pharmacy in the suburbs for the remedies prescribed in the book, my cynicism was still not abated. However, when I started to take the remedies, the symptoms that I had experienced for months (ranging from infections to headaches to depression) were alleviated or gone. This book has been a great help to me, especially since I don't have health insurance (my status at work doesn't entitle me to an employee insurance plan and my physical profile prevents me from getting individual insurance from most insurance companies). This, along with my co-worker's help, lead me to homeopathy. Despite the fact that I have a salary that would have allowed me to pay out-of-pocket for treatment of many of my ailments, most doctors would have refused to treat me. Homeopathy has provided me with an economical and responsible alternative. This book is an excellent introduction to homeopathy. It allows the reader to be more in charge of their health. It educates the reader on homeopath terms (e.g. constitutional, dosages, and definition and content of the actual remedies themselves). It also provides information on self-help, general health and nutrition, and how to treat acute and chronic ailments. It also advises the reader when to seek the help of a homeopathic practitioner or conventional doctor. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in homeopathy, especially those who are in need of a good introduction. This is such a useful book, I have just ordered my own copy from amazon.com. If I hadn't, I probably would never give my co-worker's copy back.

I received this book from a friend almost five years ago, and I continue to refer to it again and again. This is a wonderful reference for anyone interested in homeopathy, from the beginner looking for a proven alternative to allopathic medicine, to the more advanced homeopath who needs a good reference. This edition covers a myriad of ailments and gives clear, easy to understand explainations of the homeopathic remedies presented here. Highly recommended to those of you looking for a great homeopathic reference guide.

This book has a great index, so finding your concern is easy. The materia medica section in the back has complete descriptions of the 40+ basic homeopathic remedies, their physical and emotional and constitutional indications, as well as their complementary and inimical remedies. Only an encyclopedic reference would be more complete.

This is the only book on homeopathy that I own, and I'm extremely pleased with it. I purchased this book at a health food store, and it has provided me with a very comprehensive introduction to homeopathy. I am bothered by hay fever and chronic sinus problems, and some of the remedies recommended in this book have proven very beneficial to me. The author prescribes remedies for pretty much every health condition I could think of. In the appendix he provides descriptions of some of the more commonly presribed homeopathic remedies to give the reader a better sense of the remedies' uses. However, this appendix does not provide descriptions of some of the less commonly prescribed remedies, and I found this frustrating. In my case, I found a remedy called Sanguinaria recommended for two health conditions that bother me. I wanted to know more about this remedy, but the author doesn't provide a description of Sanguinaria in his appendix. Without such a description, it's impossible for me to determine whether the remedy is really right for my constitutional makeup--a concept that is supposedly important in this field of medicine. In all fairness to the author, I haven't found any other books on homeopathy that provide descriptions of these less common remedies either. Still, for the layperson, it is a bit frustrating.

luckey remedies of dr. lockey,

working as a homeopathic physician, mostly dealing with"clinical homeopathy", I have found many "pearls" in this book.
one of them is the specific remedy for "bartholinitis". in two cases i could prevent within days surgical intervention. recently i tried the same remedy, bar. carb.,on a condition where few specialists know what to do with ["vestibulitis"] and saw a rapid healing, after trial of all kind of other treatments in vain. every homeopath has his special experiences. dr. locky seems to be "luckey" in the choise of his remedies.

this is the book to have, but...,

this is the only book to have for an immature homeopath. but, it is very disorganized. it is very difficult to find a specific ailment in this book. sometimes you have to read a chapter or two to find what you are looking for. also, Dr. Lockie in this book talks about many ailments that he does not suggests any remedies for. it just feels like waisting my time to finally find it, read a page on the ailment, and not even get any use from it. the only great thing that i find about this book, is that it shows you how to pick the right medicine without guesswork and abra-cadabra that i found so many homeopaths use.

The alternative M.D. I see for my own healing suggested this book to me when I mentioned I wanted to learn homeopathy. She told me that she began with this book and still uses it.
Last week my nephew came down with pneumonia. After consulting my sister (an M.D.) to find out all I could about his symptoms, I went to this book and found the remedy that fit his illness. It worked like a charm! He was up and about the next day. I highly recommend this book.
