5.0 out of 5 stars My family is switching to this Haggadah

3.0 out of 5 stars Good value, lacking transliteration
When I placed my order, I had not noticed that this Haggadah does not have transliterations, so it is better for individuals who read Hebrew fluently. Otherwise good value, fairly nice presentation.

Over the years, there have been many haggadahs which have used plain English translations & commentaries but have given tradition a short shrift. Like other Artscroll products, this haggadah is 100 per cent traditional. The most orthodox families can use it. However, the translations and commentaries are clear so that all families, including those with little religious background, can have a rewarding seder experience. I have looked over this haggadah very carefully and after consultation with my family, we have decided to make the switch this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference, March 6, 2003
This review is from: Family Haggadah: Hagadah Shel Pesah (Artscroll Mesorah Series) (Paperback)
As a person who has studied Passover professionally (I wrote my senior thesis in college on the subject), I can tell you that there is probably no better deal on the market than this little gem. It's compact and inexpensive, yet is thoroughly Orthodox. Even though I use a different haggadah (and have a vast collection of different haggadot), I still use this one as a primary reference and as the one that says in my bag when I'm doing research. Of course, the price is unbeatable. You can get enough copies for an entire family before you've paid the price for one copy of just about any other haggadah. That makes this a fabulous package, and one that is well worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, Simple and Clear, January 10, 2006

This handy Haggadah is a must have. It has clear instructions, a clear type, and an excellent translation (as one would expect from Artscroll). This past passover it was a treasure to use. I had an in-depth haggadah to look up insights, and then this one to use for the seder - it was great, I did not miss a beat with its user-friendliness. Also its large print made it a gem after the fourth cup !! The seder can be a chaotic jumbled mess, but this handy book in a convenient size (not too small and not too big), made every moment a memorable experience. Sometimes its just the telling of the story - without all the extras that does it best. Thank you artscroll.

This review is from: Family Haggadah: Hagadah Shel Pesah (Artscroll Mesorah Series) (Paperback)
The Family Haggadah is a wonderful and very useful book, but as someone earlier said " you must speak/read Hebrew fluently". It has English translations and Instructions, I would have given it four stars it had been nice to have transliterations.

3.0 out of 5 stars Across the Spectrum Haggadah, April 6, 2007

This review is from: Family Haggadah: Hagadah Shel Pesah (Artscroll Mesorah Series) (Paperback)
I found this Haggadah to be good, not great. It had all of the requisite
detail for the Seder, and a fairly well-organized and easy to read style.
Still, I found some of the translations from Hebrew into English to be
clumsy, awkward and in some cases difficult to understand at all.
We are not Orthodox, so the constant references to "Hashem" was not something we are used to. But I bought this Haggadah knowing it could span from Orthodox across to Reform, so perhaps I should have considered that.
All in all, it was more than adequate. My main critique was the clumsy English translations.

This is an excellent guide for someone hosting a Passover Sedar for the first time. The detail was excellent and the translation makes it easy to follow.

Very Cheap, and very pretty, but not so easy to follow, and it doesn't have transliteration.
