Pregnant and Alone...,
By Anza Carrillo "heavenlyanza" (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Family of her Own (Harlequin Superromance No. 1195) (Mass Market Paperback)
Katie Rogers made a horrible mistake when she left the small town of Dundee, Idaho two years ago. She thought that she would make a great life for herself in San Francisco, especially since she was leaving with a man she was sure she'd marry. The only problem was, she was leaving the man she truly cared about back in Dundee. Her parents and friends had convinced her that she would be making a huge mistake if she stayed with Booker Robinson, an ex-con and the town's outcast. Katie didn't realize that leaving with Andy was the mistake - until two years later, when she was forced to come back to Dundee, penniless and pregnant.Booker Robinson can't believe that it's Katie, the last person he wantd to see, standing in the rain beside her broken-down car. He's spent the last two years trying to forget the woman who had rejected his marriage proposal and broken his heart. He offers to take her to her parents' house, but once her mother slams the door in her face, telling Katie she's made her bed so lie in it, Booker finds himself offering Katie a place to stay until she gets settled. He's determined to keep his distance from her, but how can he do that when he's never stopped loving her? I really loved this book, I had a very hard time putting it down! I could sympathize completely with Katie, since I had been in her position before. Booker was an incredible character - strong, protective, loyal, and understanding. I kept wondering through the book how Katie had been able to leave him behind two years ago! There was an excellent cast of secondary characters, including Josh and Rebecca Hill, who had their own story in Brenda Novak's 'A Husband of Her Own.' Although there were several running subplots, the book didn't seem too 'busy,' and it just painted a great picture of real-life people struggling with real-life problems. This book was an excellent story of second-chance love. Best of all, Brenda Novak is writing more stories about the characters in this book, so I will definitely keep my eye opened looking for more books from this great author! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great book to read. It's definitely a keeper!

After leaving Booker behind 2 years earlier...Katie comes home unmarried and pregnant. Even with their history he helps her out, over and over...A Heartwarming story..
Having the stories continue for the other Dundee, Idaho characters...an extra plus + +

I really love this book. I thought that the charaters were very realistic. You know how you read a book and think "Yeah right that could never happen" I never did that through out the story. I thought that the heroine was strong and believable. I even at times thought the next line before I read it but the story line didn't get predictable. Brenda Novack is a excellent writer and I looking forward to enjoying more of her books!

I also am a Mrs. K in Ohio that received this book free with our Sunday newspaper. I started reading it Sunday afternoon and finished it up Monday morning. No sense to go into the storyline since most people have but wanted to say I fell in love with the characters and wanted to tell Katies parents off myself. When a book pulls you in that far it is a GREAT book. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I will be sure to look for more titles from Brenda Novak. Also thank you Harlequin for sending out the free book!

Sweet Surprise!,

This morning, I got this book with my newspaper-for free!-as part of an advertising package. Well, the price was certainly right! I hadn't read a Harlequin Romance since I began rolling my eyes at them at age 20 or so. But I was between books and figured, why not...
...and I was very pleasantly surprised! The modern, realistic concepts of a pregnant/abandoned woman forced to rely on her Harley-riding ex-boyfriend...well, I guess a woman could really relate to that. Seems Harlequin got a reality check sometime in the last twenty years! I enjoyed all the characters in this book...Booker, the tattooed soft touch reminded me a lot of my own husband...Katie, while no shrinking violet, had troubles that could easily come to pass in the current world...and the other characters also had the breath of realism (especially Rebecca, Delbert, and Katie's parents.) Brenda Novak strikes me as a talented writer with a terrific story idea! She didn't need to bog us down with unlikely scenarios or unrealistic details...this one stood on its own, complete with each character's imperfections-which made it all the more plausible and likable. I know I'll start slowing down when I pass the Harlequin area of the bookstore, especially if Brenda Novak has written more like this.

What a great time I had with Kathy and Booker, (the H&H) in "A Family of her Own".
I also really enjoyed coming back to the people of her prévious books in this serie. You get that warm, fuzzy feeling of meeting old friends, acquaintances. Romantic, warm, realistic with with true to life characters; I smiled, I was touched, I went through many émotions with this terrific book that grabbed me deeply, even after the end. Yes, I did go to bed at 5 am in the morning... But it was worth it! I hope you will have the chance to read this book. I will buy all of Brenda's books that I don't already have. She has the ability to make you feel part of the story. And that is something! Thank you Ms. Novak, Judith
