When John Lewis "slew the Irish lord" and fled to America in 1729, he established a prominent family which has maintained its identity for more than two and a half centuries. His sons Thomas, Gen. Andrew, William and Col. Charles, raised in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley near Staunton, had important roles in American Revolutionary times. This book records more than 9,200 descendants, with some biographical information on more prominent ones. It also sorts out conflicting stories and myths in perhaps the most balanced presentation of the many published through the years about John Lewis and his family.
