Classic Primer,

If you are like me you have been waiting for the day that Primer gets back together and releases new music. Although its only a few(6-7) new tracks this CD ROCKS. Its Classic Primer a welcoming familiar sound that I have been waiting for a long time. If your a Primer fan its a must have. The dvd footage isn't the best quality but still great to throw in at a party on the big screen with some steller home audio to rock it out with!

It's not a NEW album,

I'm only writing this to correct everyone else.
This isn't new material at all. Why do you think it sounds like "old-school" Primer 55? BECAUSE IT IS! These are all just previously unreleased tracks. Didn't you notice how "demo" they sound at all? The acoustic songs are just from their "The New Release" album, which doesn't make them new either. The first 6 songs are songs that didn't make the cut on the Mayhem album, or else were on demos before it. That being said, it's a solid release. A good way to hear some more Primer 55 if you didn't catch these songs when they were available in the first place.

This is a good in-between, however it's a follow-up.
Intro to Mayhem apparently defined Primer - stuck them strictly within the rap-metal genre. Suddenly they release a disc that is of proximally alternate style - hard rock w/ metal elements and subsequently fall off the face of the earth. They return w/ a disc that is a blend of their rap-metal roots and hard-rock musicianry. Honestly, to me it sounds more aligned with their rap-metal works AND while it is not "Intro to Mayhem" (which will never, EVER, be duplicated) it is decent and passable despite being on the short side. For the uninformed: "Primer" means: a beginning to, an introduction of, a genesis... with this name you might consider constantly regenerating yourself... maybe the artist was smarter than you and actually knew what they were doing this time around. Or it could be serendipity / circumstance. MD.

a punch to the nose!,

I started off by listening to the last track... the acoustic version of this life and its pretty well done, nice and mellow, I enjoyed it. I then went back and started the album from track 1, and this track will punch you in the nose. the noise is so heavy and brutal it makes you wish you were having a near death experience in the moshpit. I'm not sure what the theme of this song is but it is a good intro to the album none the less. track 2 more openly continues where the last album left you hanging and wanting for more. being a huge fan of the sound I was enveloped with from the last album.... I have a huge void that needs filling since these guys have been gone. this album is not one to disappoint. screaming & yelling never sounded to sweet at 8 AM

I think this is a little bit better than Primer 55's album, The New Release, but it's definitely no Introduction to Mayhem. And with only a handful of new songs, it's hard to judge them. Hopefully their next full album will better.

New Primer 55 Album a Disappointment,
By Still Love the Metal (Reno, Nevada, United States) - See all my reviews

I was excited when I heard Primer was putting out something new after being split up for so long, BUT when I received the CD, it was a letdown. The music is nothing compared to their Introduction to Mayhem album. Lots of remake stuff too. The acoustic versions are about the only redeeming quality of this album. I can't be more specific because I only got through the album once before it went on the shelf. Better luck next time, P55!
