I picked this book from the description having never read Martina Cole. Whew, a three day marathon of emotions and speculation as to who did it. One of the best books I have ever read. I'm downloading another of her books into Kindle as I write. Enjoy!

Riveting story of a woman, Christine Murphy who is so happy to have met the man of her dreams; and then as reality kicks in she realizes she married a gangster who runs a small organization consisting of his family members. This story was so well written and shows what a life of crime can do to a woman who is not familiar with the lifestyle. Can't wait til October for Martina Cole's new novel "The Faithless".

As a keen reader of Martina Cole's books, I was excited to download "The Family", fully expecting a bit of a rip-roaring story. Unfortunately this was not to be the case and I spent the entire time waiting for something exciting and action-packed to happen. Although the product description does say that it is about a family, and their crime-filled lives, etc, I was'nt expecting that the entire story would be taken up solely with their every move- I would've liked to see a bit more about their dealings with other "baddies"-not just read that they'd " been taken care of",with no details. I don't want to read that "Bugsy's been thrown in the incinerator-I want all the details-did he scream?was there blood?was he begging for mercy? If I buy a book in the crime fiction genre, then I want to read a crime fiction story. The storyline could've included a lot more about the people around the family, which,in my opinion, would've made for a far better read. Sorry, but I definitely would'nt say that this was worth the price of the download and I would not recommend this book as a good read. Average at best.

I've read all Martina's books, but on this one I was a bit put off by negative comments by other readers, but I did enjoy it.

I picked up this book because I liked Coles "Faceless". And yes, once again she managed to keep me on the tip of my chair. This book takes you in to the London underworld by means of telling the tale of Christine (Booth) Murphy, married young to a criminal who has no compassion for anyone, except maybe his wife.
True, he loves her dearly, and Christine, unaware of the true nature/profession of her husband, thinks herself very lucky indeed.
But then things occur and the problems begin.

I do like the fact that Mrs. Cole tells this story from different points of view - it gives you a fantastic insight in the characters, and because of this you can put yourself in their position any time. I also like that the story takes place in different time settings - the story takes leaps here and there, and it's nice to read what happens so many years later. You might think that this is the kind of story that you get to see enough on tv or in the movies. Might be true, but this book is a true jewel. It's one of the best I've read in the genre.

All in all, a pageturner. I'm almost finished, but I'll regret it as soon as I read the last lines, because then I'll know I cannot read more about it.
Wonderful book.

Having never read a Martina Cole before, I had no expectations. However, I was very disappointed with her writing skills: the story was interesting and obviously aimed at adults, but the language was written for an average 10-year old . I will never buy a book by her again!

I am a big Martina Cole fan, but this one was definitely not one of her best stories. I have read all her books and The Jump was her worst with The Family close behind. There were insufficient characters, not enough in-depth details of the people involved, and I guessed the ending quite early on.
