Mr. Tucker's books are gem! They are funny, witty and charming all rolled up into one! This is the third book of his I've read and every time, he never fails in his brilliant writing style.
Family Meals is a book you must run out and buy, it's not only about family but about life---and it's hilarious to boot! Grazie, Mr. Tucker!

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Meals: Coming Together to Care for an Aging Parent, November 19, 2009

Mr. Tucker, Mr. Tucker! Thank you. "Family Meals" is a feast.
Sharing ones personal life can be tough, but Tucker handles it with such wit, wisdom, and passion. This book is for anyone who is in the midst of dealing with an aging parent and trying to have your own life at the same time. By far his best book, yet. Tucker's writing has reached another level. I must admit that all I wanted was more tastes and smells of Italy, but Tucker gives us real life. Grazie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming and real, January 1, 2011

I bought Michael Tucker's book because I liked him on LA Law. And I like food books. This book does a fine job of showing how trying it is to care for a parent with dementia, how difficult for a child of any age to learn a new way of relating to that parent. In addition, I have a house in the south of France, in a region where food is important, so I especially enjoyed the food parts. I had to go right out and eat a pizza!! (And pizza can be very good in France, too!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful, heartening Family Meals, December 21, 2010

Michael Tucker brings his wonderful humor and charm to a story of caring for his wife's (Jill Eikenberry) mother, who is slipping away with Alzheimer's. Although that's the main story, Tucker and Eikenberry spend plenty of time in Italy at their beloved Umbrian home, enjoying amazing meals with a group of lively friends. Well worth reading, especially as dessert after Living in a Foreign Language, Tucker's first book about Italy. - jjh

Michael Tucker's writing style is easy going & witty so I've always enjoyed his books. Family Meals arrived at my home at just the right time as my Mother passed away while I was reading it & I could so relate to all the joys, worries & craziness of taking care of our aging parents. Laughter is definitely the best medicine & Mr. Tucker provided it during a very trying time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elder care is not a job for one person alone, April 12, 2010
Elder care is not a job for one person alone. "Family Meals: Coming Together to Care for an Aging Parent" is the memoir of a family taking care of its aging matriarch as Lora, a widowed late in life woman coping with the death of her husband with the help of her children Michael Tucker and Jill Eikenberry. Their story is taking care of an aging woman as she fights the diseases of age such as dementia and the stories and wisdom that is drawn from these relationships. "Family Meals" is a choice and very highly recommended read for those who have elderly relatives of their own to care for.
