5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent review
I benefited from the practice questions and exams. Excellent resource. It offers a good review of common problems/clinical issues with review questions following each topic. The CD-rom is useful, too, and worked perfectly for me. It contains three practice exams with 175-207 questions. I was scoring around 72% on the practice exams and passed the AANP exam yesterday...

1.0 out of 5 stars CD is very flawed!
DON'T BUY FOR THE CD-ROM! The rationales do not match up with the correct answer. On the practice test on the CD I got a score of 38, but when I went through the rationales it had marked the ones I had right (according to the rationale) wrong and vice versa. (I actually had a 82). There is no rhyme or reason to this flaw! I bought this b/c I wanted to practice with...

5.0 out of 5 stars FNP Review book, October 31, 2004
By
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
I used this book front to back to prepare for the AANP exam. I did find a few errors, but the explanations were so good, that I KNEW when there was a mistake and was able to actually build some confidence, instead of fretting about it. I worried a first, because I was only scoring in the 68% range on the practice tests in the beginning. On the test that counted...I was in the top 6% nationally! I used several prep books and think this book was the most helpful. The CD ROM was very helpful. Thank you for all the work that went into writing this.

5.0 out of 5 stars CD is flawed- Mosby will send you a new one, January 23, 2004

Mosby did discover that the CD is flawed somehow but they will send you a new one at no charge. Don't let the issue of the CD influence you in terms of the book. It is a great review book. There are lots of test questions- more than most other review books, along with rationale. If you have difficulty in getting the new CD( hopefully now all the books have the revised CD) please get in contact with me (drobin2530@aol.com). Denise Robinson, book editor

There is no rhyme or reason to this flaw! I bought this b/c I wanted to practice with computerized questions, esp. since the test is computerized! The ANCC book is good but $$(NursingMall.org). Other good books - Fitzgerald, and Winland-Brown.

3.0 out of 5 stars didn't match the content of the AANP exam, August 27, 2006
By

I spent weeks studying from this book and taking all the practice tests. However, when I took the exam today I was surprised that the content of the exam was not adequately covered in this review manual! I feel like much of the time that I put in was wasted since I was focusing on the wrong material.

Another oddity is that the book is primarily organized alphabetically. Each individual chapter is clear and well-organized. However, organizing the chapters alphabetically instead of by body system is somewhat illogical....while it does alleviates boredom to skip from "tendinitis" to "testicular masses" to "thyroid disease," it would make more sense in relating different diseases to one another to group them by body system.

Utilizing the CD ROM to take the practice tests was very helpful, but I was disappointed that so many of the practice tests contain the same questions. So while it initially appears that there are many practice tests to utilize, it is really the same questions being repeated in different tests. Had I not been getting so close the deadline of my scheduled test date I would have purchased additional review questions from another author.

I did not examine any other FNP Certification review guides so I do not have any basis of comparison, but overall I feel disappointed that the content of this book did not make me feel adequately prepared for my exam today.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good resource, October 3, 2006
By
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
I used this book to study for the ANCC FNP certification exam (and passed). I found the book to be helpful in studying. Each chapter/section is concise and the review questions are helpful. I would have liked the topics organized by body systems instead of alphabetically. This book will be helpful in clinical practice as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tons of questions- great for review, November 9, 2005
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
We all learn differently, and I liked this set-up. There were tons of questions and my CD worked well. I especially thought the practice tests were helpful and prepared me for sitting in front of a computer screen for a few hours. I passed the FNP boards without a problem!

DO NOT buy this book until the CD is revised. The CD practice tests give all the wrong answers. I called Mosby's and they said they were working on the "glitch" as they put it. just my opinion but do not buy the book until the CD is fixed. I don't know what version the other people who rated this book have but i don't think its the same as the one I have. Are these people fictious? I don't know how they can give the book these ratings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
The book arrived in a timely manner in excellent condition! I was very impressed with the expedient service. My previous purchase was frustrating, but I decided to give you guys one more chance and I was pleased with the outcome. A lot of good information to use in the clinical setting and as preparation for certification boards. Thanks!

1.0 out of 5 stars The CD ROM is AWFUL!, June 5, 2003
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
If you are looking for a book with CD ROM to practice test questions on the computer...DON'T BUY THIS BOOK! The answers are incorrectly programmed so even though the rationales make sense, it is graded entirely wrong. Ditto what the other reviewers has to say about this major flaw...
