Just passed my ANCC for FNP,
By julietaFNP "julietaFNP" (Albuquerque, NM USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
I just passed my ANCC today and here are some books I wish I had in school. The following helped me to pass the ANCC because they are most like the test. First, Margaret Fitzgerald's book Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination and Practice Preparation is a great must have book for school and test prep. If you can, take her live seminar or get the CDs. Next Leik's book Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Intensive Review:Fast Facts and Practice Questions, great book, good to synthesize all of the Fitzgerald info. The Hollier/Wirfs book: Certification Prep Exams Practice Test s and Questions with Rationales 4th ed is a great prep for questions, don't bother buying the review book by Hollier, it is too basic. Next, make SURE you buy the Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review by Zerwekh and Claborn. This is the only review book I could find that has a CD rom . The CD is almost like the actual test and some of the questions are very similar. If you start off by buying these four books you will be in good shape. Good luck on the exam!

Questions not reflective of AANP exam content,
By Golden Retriever Lover (Cape Cod MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
While I was using this book to prep for my AANP exam, I kept thinking to myself that the questions in this book were not like the questions I had seen in other preparatory courses and books. The sample questions go into such minutia and are not reflective of broader concepts and critical thinking that are needed for the exam. Also, there were quite a few mistakes and typos in the book. Perhaps this book is more reflective of the ANCC exam content...but I doubt it. The disc was OK, some of the test questions on the disc did not go into great rationales for correct and incorrect answers. Fitzgerald's review materials are much better and far more reflective of exam content.

Excellent review book with up to date information,
By A Customer
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner: Certification Review (Paperback)
I have the 1999 edition of this review book. Every topic is fully covered, and the rationales are all a paragraph long with great explanations. The information in the book is up to date and current. There are tons and tons of difficult and challenging questions. Topics covered are growth and development, health promotion, all the body systems, emergencies, research and theory, and lots more. I would suggest this book for any FNP candidate.

Thorough, easy to read,,

Overall, a very thorough, excellent resource for cert. prep. The answers and rationales section provided me with an opportunity to assimilate and recall needed review information without bogging me down. This review book, along with a review course assisted me to pass my FNP exam.

Great Book!,
By EJB (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
I bought 2 books before buying this book. And this book I thought was the most helpful. It had excellent questions. The diabetes questions and others in the book helped me be prepared to pass the exam over the other two books I bought.

The BEST Review tool!,
By
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
I bought 6 different review books. I rate this one as the BEST just because of the CD with the practice tests, these practice tests where very close to what the real test was like. I just took the AANP exam today and passed! This book is a MUST have. I found some of the questions from this book on the actual test. Excellent resource.

Passed AANP in 98% with this book,
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
I used the CD with this book to prepare for the boards. I don't know if the book has been revised since some of the reviewers noticing errors, but I didn't find any. I used the CD the most to prepare for the AANP FNP test, and also listened to Margaret Fitzgerald CDs. The test questions were extremely helpful as after you take the test you can see the answers and justifications. Some of the questions on the test seemed very similar. It also gets you into the mode of taking a test on the computer, which if you haven't been practicing can take some adjustment. You also can see how long it takes you to complete the test questions if speed is a concern for you. I scored in the 98% for my test (in June, 2008) so I think the cost of the book and CD was well worth it!

Perfect Review Book,
By Aunt Binda (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
I just came home from passing the AANP certification exam and I owe it to this book. I used the computer disc to generate tests and took them over and over. There was not one question on the exam that I had not seen in some form on the generated tests. If I didn't know better I would swear these authors wrote the certification exam too. When I saw other study guides I panicked as I thought I was unprepared when in fact if I had used them, I would have been unprepared. There was some outdated material but things change quickly in health care. I would recommend this book to everyone as I was very well prepared for the exam today.

Great test review,
By Maria "Maria" (Minneapolis MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 2e (Paperback)
I took my ANCC exam Feb 2009 and passed with flying colors and this book really helped. I used the CD several times, perhaps once daily 2 weeks before the test and it was extremely helpful. The CD generates a different test every time from the same bank of questions. Some questions were very similar as those as the ones in the exam. Another excellent sources were Margaret Fitzgerald and Maria Leik, I found these textbooks very helpful while preparing for the exam.If you use these books you should not have a problem. I also used the ANCC review guide it was good but $$. Good luck.

Bad review book,

This book has many typos. The book is a little outdated. There are some new and important guidelines that are not addressed or incorrect in this book. I do not recommend this book.
