5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
This book is excellent! I was truly amazed at the number of questions I could answer on the certification exam because I had read about that particular disease/treatment plan/follow-up in this book. I cannot stress how beneficial it was for me in passing the exam. Not only was the information critical to my success, but it has helped me in my practice as a new FNP...

2.0 out of 5 stars Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review
This book in no way replaced the 3 volume set by Health Leadership. The 3 Volume Set by Health Leadership is superior because it contains comprehensive content as well as test questions that follow each chapter. 5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT, September 22, 2000
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 1e (Paperback)
This book is excellent! I was truly amazed at the number of questions I could answer on the certification exam because I had read about that particular disease/treatment plan/follow-up in this book. I cannot stress how beneficial it was for me in passing the exam. Not only was the information critical to my success, but it has helped me in my practice as a new FNP. The book is organized to help with retention. Diseases are overviewed in a "bullet" method and then immediately followed by review questions. I wish I had been able to share this book with all of my colleagues who took the exam!

This book in no way replaced the 3 volume set by Health Leadership. The 3 Volume Set by Health Leadership is superior because it contains comprehensive content as well as test questions that follow each chapter. The Health Leadership set covers everything you need to know about major theories, diagnoses, treatment modalities, and nursing interventions. The Health Leadership books are organized in their approach, and improve retention and recall and are a far superior study method for reinforcing your knowledge base. These books also are great to keep as a reference guide in the clinical setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TERRIFIC FIND ! Concise and thorough., November 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 1e (Paperback)
Comprehensive review by system and includes common problems seen by FNP's, as well as sections for wellness and professional issues. Each chapter is concluded with 5-10 sample exam questions. To encourage the use of test simulation (time, atmosphere), the author's have included 2 practice exams at the end of the text. Also, additional tests questions for each section are included to allow for focus studying of "problem areas" prior to taking the practice exams. Appendixes include test-taking guidelines and important clinical information for review (ie. medications and pregnancy risk, Pediatric antibiotics, etc.)

4.0 out of 5 stars The essential text for a thorough & systematic board review, February 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 1e (Paperback)
This text essentially replaces the 3-volume Health Leadership Associates series as the primer source for a manageable and thorough FNP review. Strengths include the range of topics, the conciseness of material, questions after each section, and appendices which include among other topics 2 full 175-question exams. Weaknesses are few, and include factually inaccurate information provided as answers to some of the questions (you'll know when you see them but approach the answers with a healthy degree of skepticism). Overall: A must buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked for me!!, October 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 1e (Paperback)
I enjoyed how the sections were separated by body system. It made it quite easy to study. Also, the review tests were likewise separated making it easier to diagnose my areas of weakness and my areas of strenght. This allowed me to focus more of my time on my weaknesses and not waste it on things I already knew. The two full-length tests were a good practice for the real thing. Best of all I PASSED!!

I studied this review book from front cover to back cover. I used the CD that came with the review book and it was very helpful to practice the test questions. I also studied with the Margaret Fitzgerald review book and found that it was not as well organized as this Pamela Stinson Kidd book. I passed my boards on the first try. Study hard, be prepared and good luck!

4.0 out of 5 stars Concise study reference for national certification tests., August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 1e (Paperback)
Family nurse practitioners have the choice between two national certification tests. The tests are adminstered by different organziations, implying that test format may vary. This review text responds to that problem by covering both testing formats in the presentation of study material. Each system is reviewed in outline form. Specific disease processes are covered under each system in a "to the point" manner( overview, assessment, physical exam, differential diagnosis, theraputic plan). Each disease presentation is followed with several review questions/answers. A list of referances validating the information presented accompanies each section. There are two practice exams with answers and rationale included. An appendix covers frequently tested drug categories and considerations in their use. Primary care theories, wellness promtion and life span issues are covered. The authors did through job of covering this broad field. This book would be of value to student nurse practitioners as they complete their academic course work.It gets five stars if I pass!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for review, December 9, 2002
This review is from: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Review, 1e (Paperback)
I used this book to help prepare for the FNP exam and can say it was helpful. I wish that I had purchased it earlier on, at the beginning of the FNP program, because it would have helped for those school exam reviews as well. 5 stars, worked for me!
