4.0 out of 5 stars Next in the Montgomery Saga, March 30, 2007

This review is from: A Family Portrait (The Montgomery Family, Book 3) (Paperback)
Another awesome book as J. J. Massa continues her Montgomery Family saga with A Family Portrait and you won't be disappointed! This is werewolf Tavist Darke's story. Tavist has survived much pain in his life including the loss of his mate and pup. Tracey West and her three children have survived the abuse inflicted by their husband/father. All are in need of a second chance at love, life and trust.

Tavist first meets Tracey's young daughter Ashley and saves her from bullies. Her fear of everyone is so great that she runs home leading Tavist straight to her gorgeous, over protective mother and frightened younger brothers. Tavist soon wants this human family as his own, but knows there are many obstacles to be overcome including Tracey's dangerous ex husband and the whole family's fear of men. Tavist must be patient with all of them if Tracey is to become his mate, but patience is hard fought when he wants her so badly. How can any woman resist this gorgeous hunk of man/wolf and his incredible lovemaking?

The Montgomery/Livingston clan unites again to protect their own with new surprises and another heartwarming love story. You'll be melting long before Tracey finally does. Make room on your JJ Massa shelf next to Acting Like Family and Family Harmony.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Family Portrait, February 20, 2008
This review is from: A Family Portrait (The Montgomery Family, Book 3) (Paperback)
Tavist Darke has known grief and loss. His mate and pup were killed in a car accident and he withdrew into his wolf nature for many years. It's only been recently that his adopted family, the Montgomery's, have helped to draw him back into living. Tavist was not looking for a new mate, but it seems nature has thrown him a curve in his new neighbor. Not only is she available, she comes with three adorable children. Now all Tavist must do is convince her!

Tracey West has just gotten out of a bad marriage. Not only did her husband abuse her, he dared raise a hand to her children! Tracy has finally broken free and in the process, put her ex in jail. She wants nothing to do with men, not even her sexy new neighbor.

When Tracey's ex escapes from prison, it's Tavist and his adopted family that she turns to for help. Tavist has his own secrets, but he has vowed to protect her and her children. Can Tracy let go of the past and reach for a future with Tavist?

A Family Portrait by J.J. Massa is the third in the Montgomery series. It can be read on its own, though several of the characters from the previous books are part of the story line. Both Tavist and Tracey are drawn to each other and have to let go of their past hurts. Learning to trust in each other is a major part of the plot. Tavist has the soul and sensitivity of an artist, which is just what Tracey needs. She is learning to stand up for herself and balancing that with Tavist's dominating werewolf nature, takes a little doing. Tavist's skillful and tender seduction releases the passionate nature in Tracey that has been beaten down by her ex. This third installment of the Montgomery Family does not disappoint!

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Blue Ribbons from Romance Junkies!, August 14, 2007
This review is from: A Family Portrait (The Montgomery Family, Book 3) (Paperback)
Tavist Darke, artist, soldier, werewolf, has returned home and settled on 40 acres of land that he can now call his own. His world is turned upside down one day when a little girl steps off the school bus and two bullies frighten her. Coming to her aid, Tavist chases the boys away but also scares the little girl. He sits quietly on the side of the road and watches the scared little girl run home. After a few minutes, Tavist notices that a school recognition certificate from the little girl's school was left in the road. Knowing that her mother would probably want this, Tavist slowly walks to her house, which happens to be on his land. As soon as he steps in the yard, the little girl's mother comes to the porch demanding to know what he wants. Smelling her fear, Tavist slowly hands over the certificate and his world is knocked for a loop.

Tracey West has learned to live with fear. The ex-mate of a werewolf, she and her three children are on the run and Tracey doesn't need another man sniffing around her, least of all another werewolf. Mistrustful and trying very hard to be forceful, Tracey refuses to give in to her body's demand that she accept this man. Instead, she gives off the illusion of anger and tries to keep Tavist away. The fact that Tavist looks like a walking god doesn't help matters either, but Tracey does her best to give him the benefit of the doubt--even though he is a man, and a werewolf. Her ex-husband abused her and harmed her children and Tracey's greatest fear is that he will find them. Find them he does, and Tracey once more has to live in fear. Fear of her ex husband and fear of hurting Tavist.

A FAMILY PORTRAIT is a great read. While Tavist isn't a blood member of the Montgomery Family, everyone comes together to show family unity when Tavist and Tracey are threatened. I love how J. J. Massa ties in all the characters from the first two Montgomery books. The words flow and the storyline is captivating. A FAMILY PORTRAIT doesn't disappoint and I can't wait for the next Montgomery Family installment. Suffice to say, I recommend this book to any and all readers. I just love the Montgomery's!
