John Hartman is a smart marketer of photographic services, and yes he is a photographer. I was apprehensive to buy this book, because it was published about 20 years ago, but for the low price thought "what the heck". The information in this book is timeless because the customers of wall portraiture who see the value still respond the same way as they did then. John delivers information much like Photographic marketing superstar Charles J Lewis does when talking about how to reach the appropriate market. I found many ideas that I could easily translate into 2010 that would work to create more customers and income for me. Yes, you have to understand that we no longer use slide carousels to present our images and the computer is not such a new tool, but outside of that... own this book and use the ideas contained in it.

this is truly a great book. I have been a friend of Johns for over 14 years now and he has tought me more than almost everyone else in my life. This book is still one of the best in its class, and every portrait photographer doing families needs it. In a word, buy this book. YOU NEED IT

Although this book is about 12 years old, it is still one of the best out there on how to enter into the world of profitable professional portrait photography. Many of John's ideas in this book are timeless and time-tested. If you are interested in succeeding, REALLY succeeding in the portrait photography of any kind, you need to get your hands on this book and anything else John Hartman has written. I firmly believe he is responsible for making more photgraphers financially successful than any other educator in the history of the industry.
