Fiction?,
By uffish (IN) - See all my reviews

This is thoroughly delightful and well-written ghost story. A closer look at the back cover, beneath the publisher's name and the price of the book, however, is the disappointing word: "fiction."

It was not bad but far from " great "...,

Before I begin, please bare in mind that I am used to reading books that are, also true, but far scarier than this book ended up being and faster paced. Like "The Devil Connecticut" for example. I read all the reviews before I bought this book and I read the subject matter, etc. I thought enough of what I read to buy it. It was an "ok" read but quite slow. There are a few scary parts but not many. It is also a short read. Only 125 pages. It's a good book for someone who likes to be scared by what they are reading but not " too " scared. Also, in my opinion, it is good for the novice who is just becoming interested in this subject. It says on the back cover that it is " Fiction " but on the inside it says that the story is based on actual events. So, only the author and the family memebers know for sure if the events truly took place or not. It is very similiar to many other books I have read on the subject of hauntings. It basically begins with a family who moves into a home on some land that is haunted by spirits. They grow confused and concerned at first because of some odd sounds and sights that they are experiencing. They seek help from their church and others only to get conflicting advice, etc. I don't want to give away too much though so I suppose you'll have to read it yourself to find out more about the hauntings, the family and what happens to them. However, in saying that, the title, " A Family Possessed " , is hardly the topic of this book. The family is haunted by a couple of spirits but there is little mention of actual " possession ". When it is finally mentioned, it is towards the end of the book and it is never confirmed if the people were actually possessed by something or simply under a great deal of stress (which is infered). As I stated earlier, it was an ok read but I won't save it to read again in the future. I will donate it to my local public lirary. It was entertaining enough for the couple of nights that it took to read it I guess. Hence the 3 stars instead of just 2...I think I am being generous though :-)

I know the family..and they're still having problems!,
By "goodbuddy" (Southern Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Family Possessed (Paperback)
This is an actual account of a family in the Midwest...their trials with this "evil" has been carefully documented by hours of taped interviews...I know, because I know the family...they continue to have problems....down to earth and practical, they've had to admit, after years of witnessing amazing paranormal activity, that what walks their grounds..should have moved on long ago, or..should have they?...Is it the Native American burial ground? The troubled spirits? The unusual activity that has for years taken place at that location? Or...has a greater evil, who knows how old, been the common denominator, catalyst and source of it all?...Read the book...

RINGS ACCURATE AND TRUE BUT NOT SCARY,
By
This review is from: A Family Possessed (Paperback)
I felt that the paranormal events this family experienced, as told in this book, were accurate and true. It seemed the writer wanted to tell the story without sensationalism. He succeeded to the point that the story moved slow and was not compelling. I wanted to like the book more as I admired the writer's intent. I was surprised that by the book's end, everyone affected was still clueless and blaming the events that occurred on ghosts and hauntings. This made the ending very unsatisfying to me. Read it if you're looking for an accurate account of the paranormal. If you're looking for chills, you won't find any here unless you are easily frightened.

A Family Possessed,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Family Possessed (Paperback)
A story of evil hauntings of a midwest family. I am from the area and have talked with the family personally about what went on in their home. Knowing it to be true, makes it even more eerie reading. Read this late at night, with the lights low and get ready to hear things go "bump in the night" in your own home. I highly recommend this book.

This book is very porly written. The only saving grace is it's just 125 pages long. Not at all scary, seems fictional. Don't waste your time on this one.

I bought this from the daughter of the author, lost it and wanted it replaced. This mystery is located near here and is still taking place today.

Good Story...but not enough there.,

I read quite a bit of ghost stories and non-fiction new age stories and this one doesn't really measure up. It is very short, lacks detail and leaves me at the end of the booking saying "That's it?" It is a good book for a very quick read, but not worth the retail purchase price.

The book starts out fairly interesting, but then lapses into constant descriptions of noises and things that go bump in the night. The part about the old woman who abused dogs was creepy, but if you are looking to be scared out of your wits, this is not the book for you. There just was not a lot of meat here, and by the end of the book, you do not really feel as if you have gotten to know the family in question really well. I recommend Elaine Mercado's "Grave's End" for those who like to be creeped out. I really do not believe in the supernatural, but I do like these books for strict entertainment.
