I still have this paperback book as well as the three issues of Family Circle magazine that featured Jo Ann York's brilliant plan.
She went from spending $16.00 a week to feed her family in 1975 to $20.00 in 1978 as the children grew and finally $25.00 in 1979 as inflation forced her to do. I've found nothing else about the author since then, but I treasure the knowledge gained from her. Whenever we were in a financial pinch I'd get out the magazines and book and review her plan. The meals are great, the plan can still work today, but plan on spending at least triple what Mrs York spent in 1975, but it's still a whole lot less then most people spend today.

I bought the paperback version of this book in 1976 and wore it
out. It was very helpful and practical. She gives you good
tips on how to save money and time and her recipes are simple
but good. I would recommend this book to any mother with children
to feed. My children are grown now, but I still use the recipes
in this book.

This book was copyrighted in 1976, so the prices are now out-of-date. But I learned to cut costs at the grocery store from this book, and it has many simple and delicious recipes that I use on a regular basis.

Someone gave me a copy of this book when I first got married. I have worn it out. Her advise is sound and timely even though the prices are not. The recipes are simple, yet tasty; food that my children loved to eat. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who is trying to cut food costs and learn to cook good, simple meals. I can't imagine being a wife and mother without this book as my companion.

I bought this book in the 70's and if I had a fire at my house it's the first thing I would save. I'm glad to see others feel the same way. All the advice is still valid and the recipes are great. The prices of things are funny now but just add some zeros. She is the queen of frugal eating. I wish she would write another book or more magazine articles.

This book is awesome, I got it in the 70s when my 3 kids were little and there was more food on her system than we could eat, and the book also includes full menus and shopping lists for one month, plus dinner party suggestions! My kids have their own families now but I still use some of her recipes, I love her simple and frugal philosophy of life. You'll be lucky if you find a copy of this little treasure.
